Why is Jesus the only One worthy to open the scroll?
In Revelation 5, John sees a scroll sealed with seven seals in
the right hand of God. A mighty angel cries out: "Who is worthy
to open the scroll?"
Heaven goes silent.
Not Michael. Not Gabriel. Not Abraham, Moses, Elijah, or David.
No angel. No prophet. No king. No created being is found
worthy. And John begins to weep — because if no one can open
the scroll, judgment cannot proceed, redemption cannot be
completed, history cannot reach its final answer.
Then an elder says: "Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah
has prevailed."
But when John turns to see the Lion… he sees a Lamb. Slain.
Heaven expected power. John saw sacrifice.
Jesus alone is worthy:
Fully God — divine authority.
Fully man — represents humanity.
Slain as the Lamb — paid the price of redemption.
Risen as King — authority over death, judgment, and history.
No angel was slain for us. No prophet redeemed us. No king
conquered death. Only the Lamb was slain — and only the Lamb
is worthy.
