A 23-year-old man from Assam has been arrested by Bengaluru's Indiranagar Police for allegedly stealing women's undergarments from residential terraces in Hoysala Nagar. The bizarre case came to light after residents installed a hidden CCTV camera to solve the mystery of disappearing laundry.

According to police, the accused, Abdul Husain, allegedly stole women's undergarments at night, kept them overnight, and returned them the next day before taking a fresh pair. CCTV footage reportedly captured him placing back a previously stolen garment, taking another one, and leaving the scene.

Police said the investigation suggests the alleged acts were linked to a sexual fetish. Based on the CCTV footage, officers tracked down and arrested the accused. So far, police have confirmed two such incidents and are investigating whether he was involved in more similar cases.

A 35-year-old woman died after allegedly being set on fire by her neighbour over the recovery of a ₹5,000 loan in Patan, Gujarat, police said.

The victim, Pinki Patni, a mother of two who earned a living by selling fruits and vegetables, had allegedly borrowed ₹5,000 from her neighbour, Babu Rawal, about a month ago. According to police, Rawal had been repeatedly demanding repayment along with interest, while Pinki sought more time.

Police said that during an argument at a neighbour's house on Sunday, Rawal allegedly poured an inflammable liquid over Pinki and set her on fire. She ran onto the road engulfed in flames before bystanders rushed her to a hospital. Police recorded her dying declaration, but she later succumbed to her burn injuries on July 13.

The accused also sustained burn injuries during the incident and is undergoing treatment under police watch. Investigators are examining whether any motive other than the loan dispute was behind the fatal attack.

A 32-year-old man allegedly shot his father dead after an argument over property in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district late Wednesday night. Police said the accused fled with the pistol used in the crime, and four teams have been formed to arrest him.

The victim, 52-year-old Hariom Chaudhary of Budana village in Modinagar, was a wealthy farmer who reportedly owned around 75 bighas of land and a market on the Delhi-Meerut Road. Police estimate the family's assets to be worth nearly ₹150 crore.

According to investigators, the accused, Nikhil, allegedly returned home drunk and demanded that the remaining family property be transferred to his name. Police said his father had already given him shops and 25 bighas of land but refused to part with the rest. During the argument, Nikhil allegedly fired multiple rounds at his father, causing fatal injuries, before fleeing.

Police said Nikhil had a history of violent behaviour and is also being investigated in connection with a 2018 incident in which he allegedly opened fire on his younger brother after a dispute.

A case from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut has sparked discussion after a newly married woman left her husband's home just five days after the wedding to live with her female partner, claiming they had already entered into a court marriage a year earlier.

Police said both women are adults from the same village under Jani police station and had been in a relationship for years after growing up and studying together. Their families allegedly opposed the relationship and arranged the woman's marriage to a Ghaziabad resident on July 6.

Five days later, she left her matrimonial home and contacted her partner. The partner arrived with police and submitted documents claiming they had solemnised a court marriage. After counselling and recording statements from both families, the husband and the two women, police said the woman voluntarily chose to stay with her female partner.

Officials confirmed that no criminal offence has been found, describing the matter as a personal decision between two consenting adults, though both families have reportedly opposed the decision.

A fresh twist has emerged in the Jaipur murder case after police began examining allegations that 23-year-old law student Ayushi Sharma, already arrested for allegedly plotting her mother's murder, may also have been involved in the death of her father, Vijay Sharma.

The fresh probe follows a complaint by Ayushi's maternal uncle, Rakesh Sharma, who alleged that Vijay's death in April 2025 was not natural. He claimed Ayushi, along with her cousin Balram, removed Vijay's feeding tube while he was recovering from illness and later concealed details of his treatment. Police said these allegations will be investigated based on the family's complaint.

Ayushi is already accused of conspiring with Balram and others to murder her mother, Neeraj Sharma, by allegedly hiring contract killers for ₹7 lakh and staging the crime as a road accident. Investigators allege the motive was to inherit family property and secure a compassionate government job.

Rakesh further alleged that Ayushi had previously threatened her mother by claiming that if her father could be killed by removing his feeding tube, killing her would be easier. Police said these claims are yet to be verified and will form part of the ongoing investigation. Balram remains absconding, while investigators said further charges or a separate case may be registered depending on the findings of the fresh probe.

What was initially reported as the sudden death of a 27-year-old Indian woman in the US has turned into a murder investigation, with Washington police arresting her husband, Telangana native and software engineer Avinash Narne, for allegedly strangling her just four months after their marriage.

According to investigators, Avinash initially told 911 that he found his wife, Raajitha Sabbineni, unresponsive after she had allegedly locked herself inside the bathroom. However, an autopsy later concluded that she died of asphyxia due to strangulation, prompting a homicide investigation.

Police allege the investigation uncovered evidence of Avinash's continued relationship with another woman in India. Detectives claim he made multiple calls to her on the day of Raajitha's death and allegedly sent her a photograph of Raajitha's body after the incident. Investigators also cited messages in which Raajitha had complained to a friend about a bitter-tasting smoothie allegedly prepared by her husband.

Authorities believe the alleged murder may have been linked to the extramarital relationship. Avinash has been arrested, and the case is proceeding through the US legal system. Raajitha's last rites have since been performed in Washington with the assistance of members of the Telugu community.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly plotting the murder of her widowed mother by staging it as a road accident in Jaipur. Police claim the motive was to inherit family property and secure a government job on compassionate grounds.

According to investigators, Neeraj Sharma (45), an LDC in a court, was allegedly run over by a Scorpio SUV travelling at nearly 130 kmph on July 3 after dropping her differently-abled son at a coaching centre. CCTV footage allegedly revealed that the collision was a planned murder, not an accident.

Police have arrested seven accused, including Neeraj's daughter Ayushi Sharma, her uncle, and several alleged contract killers. Another key accused remains absconding. Investigators alleged that the conspiracy was planned over three months, with the victim kept under surveillance before the attack. Police claim ₹7 lakh was paid to execute the murder.

According to police, the alleged motive was a property dispute and Ayushi's desire to obtain the compassionate government job that her mother had received after her father's death. Further investigation is underway.
