Naik Deepak Kumar Nainwal, a brave soldier of the 1 Mahar Regiment, made the supreme sacrifice on 20 May 2018 after battling severe injuries sustained during a counter-terror operation in Jammu & Kashmir.
Hailing from Uttarakhand, Naik Deepak served the Indian Army with pride and dedication for 17 years. Attached with the 1 Rashtriya Rifles during counter-terror deployment, he was known for his courage and commitment towards duty.
On the night of 10 April 2018, security forces launched a joint operation in Kulgam district after receiving intelligence about terrorists hiding inside a house.
As the fierce encounter unfolded, Naik Deepak displayed exceptional bravery under heavy enemy fire. During the prolonged gun battle, he was hit twice by bullets, and one bullet severely damaged his spine.
Despite critical injuries, he fought bravely and was evacuated from the battlefield by fellow soldiers.
For the next 40 days, he battled for life in military hospitals with unmatched courage and determination. On 20 May 2018, he attained Veergati while fighting his final battle.
Even in his last days, his spirit remained unbroken.
Before passing away, he expressed a final wish to his wife, Jyoti Nainwal — asking her to join the armed forces if he did not survive.
Years later, carrying forward his dream and legacy, she was commissioned into the Indian Army as Lieutenant Jyoti Nainwal.
Naik Deepak Kumar Nainwal’s sacrifice and love for the uniform will forever inspire generations.

Colonel Manpreet Singh, Sena Medal, Kirti Chakra (Posthumous), made the supreme sacrifice on 13 September 2023 during a fierce counter-terrorism operation in Kokernag, Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Born in Punjab, Colonel Manpreet Singh came from a proud Army family and was commissioned into the elite 12 Sikh Light Infantry in 2005. Over 17 years of service, he earned immense respect for his bravery, leadership, and dedication to the nation.
As the Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, he led several successful counter-terror operations in South Kashmir. Beyond military duties, he was deeply respected by locals for helping Kashmiri youth stay away from drugs and radicalization through sports and rehabilitation programs.
On the night of 12–13 September 2023, security forces received intelligence about heavily armed terrorists hiding in the forests of Kokernag.
Colonel Manpreet Singh personally led the joint assault team into the difficult terrain.
As the team approached the terrorist hideout, intense firing erupted. Unmindful of his own safety, he retaliated immediately and neutralized a terrorist during the fierce gun battle.
Even after sustaining a critical gunshot wound to his forehead, he continued guiding his troops and ensured the remaining terrorists were trapped.
Colonel Manpreet Singh attained Veergati alongside Major Aashish Dhonchak, Sepoy Pardeep Singh, and DSP Humayun Bhat during the operation.
The heartbreaking image of his young son giving a final salute to his father moved the entire nation.
For his extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra.

Captain Amit Bhardwaj, a brave officer of the 4 Jat Regiment, made the supreme sacrifice on 17 May 1999 during the initial stages of the Kargil War.
Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, he was the only son of his parents and was known for his fearless nature, discipline, and love for the Army. Commissioned into the Indian Army in 1997 after training at OTA Chennai, he quickly earned respect among his comrades.
In May 1999, when reports of Pakistani infiltration emerged from the Kaksar sector, a patrol led by Lt Saurabh Kalia went missing near Bajrang Post.
Without hesitation, Captain Amit Bhardwaj volunteered to lead a rescue mission with a 30-member team on 17 May 1999.
As the team reached the icy heights, they were suddenly ambushed by nearly 300 heavily armed infiltrators. Realising his men were heavily outnumbered, Captain Amit ordered them to retreat safely and report the enemy positions.
To save his comrades, he stayed back at the post and continued firing at the enemy alone.
His buddy, Havildar Rajvir Singh Sheoran, refused to leave his side. Together, the two brave soldiers held back the enemy and neutralized several infiltrators, allowing 29 Indian soldiers to survive.
Both heroes attained Veergati during the battle.
When Captain Amit Bhardwaj’s mortal remains were recovered 56 days later, his weapon was still tightly held in his hands — a symbol of unmatched courage and dedication.
India will forever remember his sacrifice and bravery.

Sepoy Mudavath Murali Naik, a brave soldier of the Indian Army, made the supreme sacrifice on 9 May 2025 during cross-border shelling in Jammu and Kashmir amid Operation Sindoor.
Hailing from Kalli Thanda village in Andhra Pradesh, Murali Naik came from a humble family. His father worked as a construction labourer while his mother worked as a domestic helper. He was the only son of his parents and carried the dreams of his entire family.
Driven by patriotism and responsibility, he joined the Indian Army as an Agniveer in December 2022 and was later posted with the 851 Light Regiment under Northern Command.
In the early hours of 9 May 2025, Pakistani forces carried out heavy artillery and mortar shelling in the Uri sector near the Line of Control during heightened tensions of Operation Sindoor.
While retaliating against enemy fire and defending the nation, Sepoy Murali Naik sustained critical injuries during the shelling.
Despite evacuation efforts, he succumbed to his injuries while serving the country with courage and dedication.
On 11 May 2025, his mortal remains wrapped in the tricolour reached his native village, where thousands gathered to bid farewell to their brave son. He was cremated with full military and state honours.

Agniveer Naveen Jakhar, a young soldier from Salhawas village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, passed away on 23 April 2025 while serving in Jammu and Kashmir.
Just 20 years old, Naveen had joined the Indian Army under the Agnipath scheme soon after completing his 12th-grade education. Full of dreams and determination, he chose the path of service at a very young age.
He belonged to a proud family. His father, Ajay Jakhar, is a farmer, while his brother Lokesh Jakhar is also serving the nation as an Agniveer in Jammu and Kashmir.
At the time of the incident, Naveen was deployed in the Baramulla sector. During a practice drill/training session on 23 April 2025, he was accidentally shot and sustained critical injuries.
Despite all efforts, he could not be saved and passed away in the line of duty.
On 25 April 2025, his mortal remains wrapped in the tricolour reached his native village, where thousands gathered to pay tribute. He was cremated with full military honours.
His sacrifice at such a young age will always be remembered by the nation.
