One of our recent examples from our SHAP. Almost a year ago, a client decided to save money on an expansion tank and installed an aftermarket one from Alliance instead of the original. The logic was simple: The part was purchased from a dealer. The manufacturer is reputable. Therefore, there shouldn't be any problems. But, unfortunately, this doesn't always work. In my experience, some Alliance parts have proven themselves to be far from perfect. This expansion tank was further proof of this. After about a year of use, the coolant level float inside broke. As a result, they had to: 🔧 Drain the antifreeze 🔧 Remove the expansion tank 🔧 Install a new one 🔧 Refill the system And all this just because they once decided to save a little money. But that's not all 👀 During the inspection, we noticed another interesting detail. The truck has a fuel filter that looks like the original. But it's not original. Most likely, either the owner or the company that makes the fuel filter decided to cut costs a bit. As a result, a cheap replacement was installed instead of the original filter, which can be purchased on eBay for about $50. Meanwhile, it cost the customer almost $150. This creates a double problem: ❌ Overpay for a non-original part ❌ Received questionable quality That's why I constantly repeat one simple thing. If you want your truck to last a million or a million and a half miles, don't skimp on parts. Especially on cooling system parts, fuel system parts, and engine components. And even if you buy parts yourself, try to buy them only from an authorized dealer. This is not a guarantee of perfect results. But this significantly reduces the likelihood of running into a counterfeit or low-quality aftermarket item. Friends, let us know in the comments.
