Summer Heat Triggers Fish Deaths in Telangana | 10 Tons of Fish Lost | Fishery News Telugu
Scorching summer temperatures are creating a serious crisis for Telangana’s fisheries sector. Water levels in ponds and reservoirs are dropping rapidly, leading to poor water quality and dangerously low dissolved oxygen levels. As a result, fish are dying in large numbers across the state.
In a recent incident, nearly 10 tons of fish died in Chinna Vaddepally tank in Warangal district, causing major concern among fish farmers and fishing communities. Despite fish repeatedly surfacing due to oxygen stress, many fishermen are reluctant to carry out partial harvesting, hoping to benefit from the increased fish demand during the upcoming Mrigasira Karthe season on June 8.
Fisheries officials warn that delaying harvest could result in complete crop losses. Reducing fish density through immediate partial harvesting is currently the most effective solution. Experts also point out that many fish mortality incidents are often mistaken as poisoning cases, whereas the real cause is frequently oxygen depletion due to extreme summer conditions.
Should fisheries departments increase field-level monitoring and technical support to protect fish stocks during extreme weather events? Share your thoughts in the comments.
