The Karnataka Government has issued a circular dated February 15, 2025, under the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act, 2022, making it mandatory for all businesses to print product names, user instructions, and other details in Kannada. 🏭📜
If any language has to grow, it must be part of day-to-day usage and also part of daily business transactions. As part of this, the state government enacted the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development (Amendment) Act, which came into force in March 2024. Section 17(7) of this Act makes it mandatory to use Kannada in labelling and printing instructions on all packages manufactured in the state,” the circular reads.
In this regard, it is hereby directed to compulsorily print the names and instructions on their use in Kannada along with other languages on all industrial and consumer products manufactured in the state and in the private sector and the enforcement authorities designated under Section 9 of the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act, 2022 are instructed to monitor the strict implementation of these instructions by all industrial and consumer goods manufacturers in the government and private sector
