The Cattleya walkeriana Feiticeira was discovered in the 1960s in the Sete Lagoas region of Minas Gerais by a woodsman known as "Zé do Mato." There are several stories about it, but the most widely accepted account among older orchid growers is that "Zé do Mato" showed a piece of the flowering plant to orchid grower José Dias Castro, former owner of the Açucar União factory, who wanted to buy the entire plant at any cost. However, the plant was in a shipment packed with tree stumps containing many other plants. "Zé do Mato" cleverly claimed he didn't know which branch he had taken the piece from. So, Mr. José Dias Castro allegedly bought the entire lot to locate the rest of the plant. Some time later, with the plant in bloom, he presented it to a group of fellow orchid growers, who spent hours admiring its beauty without stopping. The baptismal name "Feiticeira" was suggested by orchid grower Orestes Loboda, due to the enchantment that the flower of this exceptional walkeriana evoked. #cattleya #walkeriana #walkerianas #feiticeira #orquidias #orquideas #orquídeas
