This series is meant to show how much Joyce cares about Raine. The song describes the feeling of losing a childhood friend to another person, a romantic partner. Their attention is split, you see them less often and you can’t help but feel abandoned in a way. It’s almost a selfishness, in a way, wanting to keep them to yourself. But Raine is happy so all Joyce can do is watch her walk away. This feeling of being abandoned connects to some of his childhood trauma with a mother that would leave him home alone for hours at a time. Raine was one of the only comforts he had as a kid.
