After returning from the forest riding a massive tigress, Lord Ayyappa refused the throne. He took King Rajasekhara to Sabarimala, shot a divine arrow, and caused the temple to appear. There, he sat forever in yogic posture — knees bent and bound with yoga patta, the tigress calmly by his side — and promised: “Whoever observes 41 days of strict vratham, wears black, carries the sacred Irumudi, and climbs the 18 holy steps will receive my eternal blessings.” This is the reason Lord Ayyappa is seen sitting with the tigress and yoga patta even today. 🐅🖤
