In the Nejang and broader Trulkhor (Tibetan yoga) traditions, torso twisting is primarily known as Churning the Stomach (or sometimes "Churning the Torso") and is part of the sequence designed to balance the "fire-like wind" (mé-nyam loong) associated with the navel chakra. Key Exercise Details: Practice Name: Within the Nejang 24 Exercises, this movement is often called Churning the Navel or Torso Twisting. In the Bön Tsa Lung tradition, it is the fourth exercise, associated with the Fire Element. Movement: From a seated position, you place your hands on your knees or waist and rotate the upper body in a wide, circular churning motion, twisting from the waist. Breath Retention: Like other Trulkhor movements, it is performed with breath retention (kumbhaka or bumpachen). You inhale, hold the breath at the navel, perform the twists (typically 3 or 7 times in each direction), and then exhale forcefully.
