This was such a huge mistake!🫣
I heard SO many good things about the Amish paste tomato, so I had to give it a go and now I’m totally regretting it.
We’ve had an incredibly wet season (which increases the risk of blight), so maybe the Amish paste tomato would do okay with average rainfall? Even still, it’s been completely destroyed by blight where the disease is minimal in my other varieties. It’s just not worth the risk for me!
Next, let’s talk about indeterminate tomatoes....While the continual growth of indeterminate tomatoes sounds awesome (and it IS in certain climates!), when you have a super short growing season like I do, it just doesn’t pay off. I need ALL of my tomatoes right away before it freezes in mid-September 🥶.
I’m also a lazy gardener - I LOVE my simple tomato cages. My plum regals and even my other indeterminates do well with the cages, but the wild Amish paste tomato really needs a trellis to thrive. Lesson learned😅!
This just really highlights how each garden is so unique✨. I’m sure this tomato does awesome in dry climates with long growing seasons, but with my wet, short growing season here in Minnesota... it just didn't work out.
**Reposting this from 2024 to help you out for next season! 🙏🏼 I’m back to my Plum Regals this year and I couldn’t be happier!
