The most famous photograph in the entire history of science was taken in 1927.
In one single frame 29 of the brightest minds of the 20th century. Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schrödinger and many other legends. 17 of them were Nobel Prize winners.
And among all these geniuses there was only one woman - Marie Curie.
Exactly 90 years later, in 2017, the picture was completely different.
After a conference in Trento, Italy, dedicated to women in physics, they took a new photo: 28 women and only one man. The roles had reversed in the most symbolic way possible.
This powerful comparison always gives me goosebumps.
Since Marie Curie’s time, science has changed a lot. Today, more and more women are becoming physicists, making important discoveries, defending theses, and leading research. That’s real progress, and it’s inspiring.
But we still have a long way to go. In many areas of physics, women are still a minority. That’s why conversations about equal opportunities, visibility, and support are so important.
This video is about these two legendary photos, about how science has evolved, and about the people who move it forward regardless of gender.
If you love science, history, and stories that make you think and feel this is definitely for you.
Watch until the end to see both photos side by side. I promise it’s worth it!
