Rolls‑Royce unveiled today 'Project Nightingale', the inaugural Coachbuild Collection. Its name is inspired by Le Rossignol, the designers’ and engineers’ residence at Henry Royce’s estate on the French Riviera, meaning “The Nightingale”. Project Nightingale draws on the spirit of the high‑speed experimental ‘EX’ Rolls‑Royces of the 1920s and is built on the marque’s Architecture of Luxury aluminium spaceframe. Its form follows a sheer, monolithic design language, shaped by the principles of Streamline Moderne. Conceived as a production concept, Project Nightingale enters a global testing and validation programme this summer. It will be offered by invitation only to clients with a profound connection to Rolls‑Royce design. Main features: 1. Platform Architecture: The Rolls-Royce proprietary "Architecture of Luxury" aluminium spaceframe. This is the same rigid, modular platform upon which the Phantom and Spectre are built. Bodywork: Unique, handcrafted aluminium and carbon fiber body panels. The design is dominated by a monolithic approach, aiming to minimize shut lines (e.g., rejtett/hidden door handles). 2. Powertrain and Performance Type: Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Characteristics: "Near-silent" operation, which the marque likens to the experience of sailing. Aerodynamics: 'Aero Afterdeck': A single-piece carbon fiber rear diffuser that replaces traditional spoilers and ensures stability at high speeds. Cooling: Due to the absence of an internal combustion engine, the Pantheon Grille is more enclosed, resulting in significantly lower drag than on petrol-powered models. 3. Dimensions and Wheels Length: 5.76 meters. This matches the length of the four-door Phantom, yet here the entire scale is dedicated to just two seats. Wheels: 24-inch alloy wheels (the largest ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce), featuring directional, propeller-inspired spokes and a specialized "wire-wheel" effect finish. 4. Roof Structure and Acoustics Type: Silver soft-top convertible roof. Materials: A multi-layered composite incorporating cashmere, fabric, and high-performance sound-deadening materials. Acoustic Engineering: Engineers aimed to minimize wind noise even with the roof down, while intentionally preserving "romantic" sounds, such as raindrops on the canvas. 5. Interior and Technology Lighting System: Starlight Breeze suite – a system of 10,500 individual light points that visualizes the soundwave patterns of a nightingale’s song. Controls: Only five primary rotary controllers are found in the cabin, minimizing 'digital noise'. Mechanism: An electrically sliding armrest that glides back to reveal the jewel-like, faceted Spirit of Ecstasy rotary controller. 6. Production Data Initial Phase: Global on-road testing and validation commences in the summer of 2026. Production Volume: Limited to 100 units worldwide.
