In July, the U.S. Air Force demonstrated a cost-effective method to neutralize surface vessels using QUICKSINK technology. This approach was tested in the Gulf of Mexico near Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber successfully delivered an air-launched weapon, sinking a surface vessel as part of the RIMPAC SINKEX exercise.
Developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate in partnership with the U.S. Navy, this technology addresses the ongoing need to quickly eliminate maritime threats across vast oceanic regions. QUICKSINK offers a unique capability to modify existing and future Department of Defense weapon systems, providing combatant commanders and national leaders with new strategies to ensure maritime security.
