Remembrance Day - le jour du souvenir en Israel.
In this video, we learn a fundamental word:
👉 זִכָּרוֹן – remembrance, memory
We can talk about:
👉 זִכָּרוֹן שֶׁל אָדָם – human memory
👉 זִכָּרוֹן שֶׁל טֶלֶפוֹן – memory of a telephone
This word comes from the verb:
👉 לִזְכּוֹר – to remember
Examples:
👉 אֲנִי לֹא זֹכֵר אֶת הַמִּסְפָּר – I don’t remember the number
👉 אֲנִי זֹכֵר – I remember
Yom HaZikaron pays tribute to:
🇮🇱 חַלְלֵי מַעֲרָכוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל – soldiers who fell in battle
🕯 קוֹרְבְּנוֹת פְּעוּלוֹת הָאֵיבָה – victims of attacks
👉 חָלָל – both “empty”… and “soldier tombé”
