Is amiibo support actually missing from Yoshi and the Mysterious Book? I spent my day trying to figure this out, and the answer is a little more of a hidden feature than you might think! I have been absolutely loving my time with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on the Nintendo Switch 2. It is a stunning, cozy, and incredibly fun platformer that feels like a love letter to the classic Yoshi's Island series. However, after picking up the game on launch day, I was left scratching my head—and not just because I managed to get a pretty bad sunburn while out getting my copy! I noticed that there were no new amiibo figures launched alongside the game. Given that other recent hits like Metroid Prime 4, Donkey Kong Bonanza, and Kirby Air Riders all received dedicated amiibo support or new figures, I was genuinely confused. I started by checking the system settings on the Nintendo Switch 2, using my Pro Controller 2 to ensure my Green Yarn Yoshi and R.O.B. figures were being read correctly by the hardware. They scanned perfectly, so I knew the tech was working. But when I jumped into the game, the usual "tap to scan" magic just wasn't happening. I tried scanning during gameplay, in menus, and even on the world map—and nothing. I was honestly starting to believe that Nintendo had completely skipped amiibo functionality for this title, which felt like a massive missed opportunity for a game so perfectly suited for collectibles. But after doing a little bit of deep-dive research, I finally cracked the code! It turns out, you can use your amiibo collection, but the game keeps this feature tucked away behind a specific menu. You cannot scan them on the fly during a level; instead, you need to return to the main menu, select the book interface, and navigate to the "Amiibo Fortune" screen. From there, you can scan your Yarn Yoshis, various Yoshi variants, Bowser Jr., and even Poochy to unlock helpful tokens and bonus coins! It’s a fantastic little daily boost for your playthrough, though keep in mind that each figure is limited to one scan per day. I’m happy the functionality is there, but I’ll be the first to admit I wish we’d gotten a fresh line of figures to celebrate this launch—they would have been an instant addition to my shelf! In this video, I show you: How to verify your amiibo are working in the Switch 2 system settings. The initial confusion of trying to scan during gameplay. The correct path to access the "Amiibo Fortune" menu. The rewards you can expect from scanning your favorite Yoshi series figures. Did you pick up Yoshi and the Mysterious Book yet? Are you playing on a physical cartridge or did you go digital? And most importantly—which amiibo do you have in your collection? I want to know who you’re scanning every day to get those extra coins.
