The Ring of Fire is a string of underwater volcanoes and earthquake sites around the edges of the Pacific Ocean. Beginning in 2003, the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research has sponsored numbers expeditions to explore these volcanoes in the Mariana Arc region.
The discoveries that have resulted from this more than a decade of exploration in the Mariana region have been numerous, frequently scientifically startling, and very often visually stunning.
