Joint Reading: Senhora, by José de Alencar
Let's read together one of the most important novels in Brazilian literature: Senhora, by José de Alencar.
Here, Alencar denounces the customs of a social group that used institutions as tools for social advancement and business, including marriage.
It's a story about love and revenge that, published in 1875, marks Alencar's urban phase.
This joint reading is an invitation for us to immerse ourselves in the work, exchange impressions, and think together about the conflicts that run through the narrative.
📅 Dates of the live sessions:
May 12th, at 7 PM — initial meeting (context of the work + first chapters)
May 26th, at 7 PM (Brasilia time) — in-depth discussion of the reading
If you've already read it, come revisit it.
If you've never read it, this is the perfect opportunity to start together.
Prepare your copy, mark your favorite passages, and come join us!

This is the Trama Literária channel, created by Maisa Barbosa, a university professor and PhD in Letters - Literary Studies (UFMS).
It's a space all our own for encounters around reading, especially literary reading. As I research themes related to literature, reader development, feminism, and feminist criticism, all these topics end up wandering around here!
