DroneBot Workshop

Welcome to the Workshop!

The DroneBot Workshop is the place where I work with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and lots of other cool microcontrollers, components, and sensors.

This is a channel for learning and understanding. While I do build projects, most episodes focus on showing you HOW things work, so you can use the information to bring your own designs to life.

Every video has a corresponding article on my website at dronebotworkshop.com , along with the diagrams and code samples you’ll need to build your own creations. You can also participate in discussions on my Forum at forum.dronebotworkshop.com.

Please note that I no longer do any sponsored videos, enquiries for these will be ignored!

If you'd like to know more about me or the DroneBot Workshop you can read the FAQ at dronebotworkshop.com/about-dronebot-workshop/faq/

And if you have technical questions please ask them on the Forum.

Welcome to the Workshop! I hope you enjoy your stay!

DroneBot Workshop

It's been about 2 1/2 weeks since I kissed the parking lot, and my face is healing nicely. As for my teeth and nose, they still have a way to go, but all is progressing well. With any luck, I'll be able to eat a steak by October!

The best news is that my Mom seems OK. Her mobility is really reduced, but she is otherwise alright. I have spent the past two weeks installing grab bars and padding every sharp corner in the house.

I also bought her an emergency call button that she wears on a lanyard around her neck; I have additional buttons in the bathroom and on her bedside table. It was a cheap but immediate and effective solution, but it also lacked many features, which has inspired me to build something better. So, if there is any silver lining to this series of tragedies, it is that there will be another project for a video soon!

Speaking about videos, I am starting to work on them again this week. There was a video that was half done when I had the accident; I will finish filming it and will release it as soon as it is ready. I also have four others on deck, so we can get the channel back into action. Incidentally, on the half-finished video, I had already recorded the point where you saw my face, so my "scarred" look won't appear until the video after that!

I want to thank everyone who sent well wishes here on the Community tab, on the Forum, and via email; it was really very inspiring. I also want to commend all the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff we have dealt with over the last few weeks. Everyone was very friendly, professional and, most importantly, nice to my Mom!

See you soon!

I got a haircut this morning and wanted to show it off - doesn't it look nice?

I was leaving the salon, and it was pouring rain, so I remotely unlocked the car and made a mad dash to the car. Halfway there, I tripped and landed face-first on the asphalt. The folks at the salon were great, getting me cleaned up and calling the paramedics.

I've had five stitches, and two of my front teeth are now wired in; it will be about 4-6 months before we know if they will stay or if I'll need implants. I also sliced up my hands pretty bad, and my legs are both very scraped up. Right now, the freezing is starting to wear off; I expect this won't be a very pleasant afternoon!

All this to keep from getting wet!

Anyway, I do have a video that is almost ready, and I have already filmed the part where you see my smiling face. I'll try to finish the workbench segments so that I can have it out this weekend.

Going forward, I will need to change the format of the videos and narrate without being in them—at least until I look like a reasonable facsimile of a human being again!

Now that the Superbowl is finished, the next big event is the Arduino Cloud Cafe on Tuesday, February 13, at 11:00am EST (16:00 UTC). I will be a guest and will present an environmental monitoring project built with the Arduino IoT Cloud. I'll also be joined by David Beamonte from Arduino and Muhammed Afzal, author of "Arduino IoT Cloud for Developers".

There's also a rumor that Taylor Swift may show up if her plane can get there on time!

Hope to see you there!

We had an Ice Storm, and I lost electricity yesterday. Looks like it may be several days until I get it back, so it may be a while until I have a new video for you.

I now have a tree on my roof, and my car has a spiders-web where there used to be a windshield, but nobody was hurt. I now need to barbecue everything that is thawing in my freezer!

My apologies for not having a video out today, a component that I ordered on Wednesday using Amazon's "next day delivery" service has not yet arrived (and it's Sunday today) and I need it to complete the project and film the last segment!

The reason for the delay? Apparently the courier "can't find my address", despite the fact that they have delivered here over 100 times in the last four years.

Hopefully, I'll have it tomorrow and the video will be out later this week.

Any Final Cut Pro or Mac "experts' Out there? I have a BIZARRE issue with Final Cut Pro rendering videos containing screen recordings.
If you'd like the details I made a post on the forum about it - forum.dronebotworkshop.com/general/bizarre-final-c…

And, due to this, my most recent video is delayed until next weekend - sorry about that!

Here's a peek at the ESP32CAM Robot Car that I'll be featuring in my next video, which should FINALLY be ready later this week. Sorry for the absence of videos last month, been busy upgrading the equipment in the workshop and office and, of course, building this robot car!

Happy New Year! Hope you are doing well and staying safe.

I spent today recording a video that shows you what I have in store for you this year, I'm producing it right now and should have it ready for you tomorrow.

Lots of new microcontrollers coming up, including some 64-bit ones that can do video recognition. More boards built around the SAMD21 chip, the same chip the Seeeduino XIAO is built around. We'll also be working with edge computing, microphone arrays, and artificial intelligence.

Many of you have asked about some beginners' content, and I'll be making an announcement about that. I'll also discuss some enhancements to my existing videos, and will mention a few "secret projects" that will soon be revealed!

Stay tuned, the year is just starting!

Tomorrow I will be releasing a VERY LONG video, just thought I should warn you all!

Most of my videos are already fairly lengthy, I tend to think of them as about the same length as an episode of Star Trek TNG without the commercials. So this one is more like the double-episode where Captain Picard becomes a Borg.

Unfortunately, Patrick Stewart wasn't available, so you'll have to settle for me instead (Captain DroneBot)!

It's actually already loaded on YouTube and ready to go, but I need to finish formatting the article that accompanies it - it's also the longest article I've ever written.

Keep on the lookout for it, and remember, resistance is futile!

:)
