Last month I lost my cat Minerva to lung cancer aged eleven. She's been a big part of Spinster's Library, but even before that she was an enormous part of my life and my family. She spent her life loving every person who crossed her path. She was Bill's shadow. She was my little co-Spinster. I miss her so much, but she touched many more lives than just mine, and knowing she brought a bit of joy and silliness and cuteness to the viewers of this channel is a comfort I'm very grateful for.
Since there will be more activity on Spinster's Library for the upcoming Jane Austen July event, I wanted you to know why you won't see her stealing the show in my videos anymore.
Minerva was a very special creature and I miss her so much. This is the last picture I took of her, doing what she loved, which was getting involved and demanding attention.
I can't believe Jane Austen July is over already 😭
Grab a glass of claret or a cup of tea and join me tomorrow evening for a live wrap-up in which I talk about all the Jane Austen related reading, watching, and other things.
Reminder: @BlatantlyBookish, @katiejlumsden and I are going live tomorrow evening to discuss the 2020 adaptation of Emma. Join us over on Katie's channel ⬇️
New video alert! I'm back with some delightfully trashy classic book covers - call the RSPCA, because this time we're looking at The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle. That poor pup deserves better 🐕
Over the next few weeks I'll be filming a little booktube making-of vlog in which I take you through the video making process start to finish. I did that before some years ago, but it's been a while.
It's also been a while since I last did a Q&A, so this seems like the perfect opportunity for another one. If you have any questions about booktube, making booktube videos, reading, or other stuff, do put them in the comments to this post and I'll answer them in the vlog.
If you haven't seen it yet, do check out my recent video essay on the gendered nature of Jane Austen's readership. Yes, it's nearly an hour long. Yes, I've done quite a few Austen videos lately... and there's another one yet to come before the end of the year. But this video is worth watching purely for the following: Contributions from fellow booktubers, Minerva being adorable on my kitchen table, and Bill being adorable in his attempts to do... accents.

My new video took weeks to film and edit - it's all about the booktube making process, taking you through the video creation from start to finish:
