Hey folks, there's a new video out! Manifolds, explained at five levels of difficulty.
When I was learning math in undergrad, I was endlessly captivated by the idea of a manifold. It sounded so abstract and mystical, like the doorway to learning about higher math. But the formal definition of a manifold was so complicated that I couldn't understand it for years.
It was only years later that I realized that the intuition behind manifolds is actually very simple. Simple enough that it's possible (in my opinion at least!) to explain it to a child. So in this video, I tried to do just that - explain manifolds at five increasing levels of difficulty.
At the end, the video arrives at the precise definition of a manifold in a way that is, hopefully, less intimidating. Hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed making it :)
