an old, stupid, patriarchal tradition
Some time ago, I went to a beach and collected some shells.
I was planning to make something (a necklace, bracelet, whatever) for Yoko.
For a month, they stayed on my desk, gathering dust.
Then, I tried making a necklace.
Why in many cultures men give gifts to women?

**“who are you to tell me how to live”** [[alex]]
Until about middle school, I’ve always been the youngest and the smallest in my class.
I’m so happy that Stefan doesn’t have to live through this.
Being the youngest meant that I always struggled more than others.
I was the last to finish tasks. My grades were almost always the worst.
My ADHD tendencies played a part as well.
As an adult, I also often found myself being the youngest and the least experienced member of almost any team.
This developed a deep-rooted belief that I had nothing to contribute.
That I need to learn, not teach.
But in 2025 something changed.
I realized something: I was living almost the dream life.
I was working part-time hours but making full-time income.
I was doing what I loved.
I survived all the sh*t life had thrown at me and my family (e.g. Stefan’s cancer when he was 2).
I had good relationships with people around me.
I had enough freedom(in terms of time, money, relationships) to pursue my hobbies.
And then I realized something else: not many people do.
So, I’m going to share what I learn and, hopefully, it’ll help you build a better life for yourself.
That’s it.

**assets and liabilities**
A couple days ago I bought a video editing software license.
The price in yen won’t mean much to you. I can fill up a full tank of gasoline 3 or 4 times. Or it’s about two-weeks worth of food.
Anyway.
On some level it felt like a waste of money.
I’m spending so much on an intangible thing, and not exactly a fun thing.
I could buy a new game console. Or save the money to buy a new bike. Etc. Etc.
Instead - this.
But this is a wise decision.
You see, there are two types of things you can buy: assets and liabilities.
Assets make you money.
Liabilities take your money.
When I understood it, suddenly money started making sense.
This is why some people are rich and others are poor.
This software license will let me make better videos and upskill.
Increasing my value (e.g. making me money).
