Figuring Out Fantasy

What’s everybody’s thoughts on the upcoming Astarion book coming out in late September?

I’m a little conflicted because this is exactly the expansion to bg3’s lore that I’ve been begging for. But part of me feels like the first one didn’t need to be Astarion. There’s not much about his story I feel needs to be further pieced together but it’s kinda… expected.

Now I WOULD feel the same way if this first book was about say… Shadowheart. Sure I’d gobble it up all the same but it would just feel too safe and not getting anywhere special. Tell me a tale of Wyll as the blade of frontiers freshly exiled by his father. Give me some Gale action back in Waterdeep, maybe as he was growing up? What about Karach’s time in Avernus!!!

I’ll read this book regardless of what it is, and I’ll surely be making a video on it, but I’m not going in expecting to be blown away by “the missing pieces of Astarion’s story I’ve always wanted to know about.” I’m expecting some classic Astarion Hasbro treatment.

Hey Everyone! I wanted to give y'all a quick update about what's coming next on the channel! We also just hit 35k subscribers which is just... CRAZY

I had to take a bit of time to sort out what videos are coming up and prep research/scripts for them so I can get back to a more frequent upload schedule. So thanks for being patient in waiting for what’s next.

That being said, coming up is a video I’m really excited about. When I started researching the Githyanki in D&D I realized they were essentially whole different race from what is in BG3. And after looking at it a bit, I came to the conclusion that what BG3 did for them is nothing short of saving their future.

I’m going to be looking into Orpheus as a plot point in the Githyanki storyline and attempting to prove how it saved them from a very deterministic and in my opinion boring fate. I'll keep you posted on when it's in it's finishing stages so stay tuned!

I really can’t blame the studios turning this opportunity down… As much as I’d love to have Baldur’s Gate 4 in my hands, the path to the finished product is not so simple.

Larian has already had their fair share of backlash on choices in their already critically acclaimed game. Bugs, unfinished stories, cut content, unbalanced classes, you name it. Now imagine all of that pointed at a studio who very likely could have those same issues, just this time not attached to a game as groundbreaking as BG3 was.

Whoever takes on this project could make a fantastic game. It could be a sequel that fans will play and have a good time with. But all throughout development there’s going to be a sense of pressure on this mystery studio. They have to meet that mark, and even if they’re close but not quite there, people are going to notice.

It’s just the curse that comes with such a phenomenal entry to a series. I struggle to understand how the next Elden Ring is going to trump the last for example. And if it’s still amazing but slightly worse, something is going to feel weird.

I just hope hasbro picks a studio with as much passion and love for the craft as Larian did. It’s hard to find but if they’re putting their best and honest foot forward, I can do nothing but root for them in what they might eventually deliver.

Did you get the new Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook? I've been doing a bit of research on Ravenloft as a whole and... let's just say you can expect a comprehensive video on it in the near future. 😅

D&D seems like a natural direction for my channel to head as I start to learn about just how small of a slice Baldur's Gate is of the Forgotten Realms, and how many new kinds of videos I can make if I try to learn as much as possible.

Let me know of other iconic sourcebooks like those about Ravenloft and maybe I'll cover them as well!

Figuring Out Fantasy

Hey Everyone! I've got an upcoming video to announce!

I'm going back to my roots a bit to tell a story. "The Tale of Shadowheart."

This is going to be the first in a series of videos covering each of the Origin characters and their stories. COMPLETE from start to finish. And if you all enjoy them as they come out we could certainly expand to more notable characters too.

It's going to be a chronological narrative as well, so here we're starting back when she was known as Jenevelle Hallowleaf, ending at the climactic moment in the Cloister of Sombre Embrace as Shadowheart, and touching on EVERYTHING in between.

While this might be familiar territory for me given that I started this channel being much more of a story teller, I'm going all in on this one and can't wait to try new things in my approach. Not sure when this one will go live but expect it soon-ish!
