Two days ago, the Nigerian entertainment industry literally emptied into Arochukwu in Abia State for the funeral rites of one of Nollywood's most recognisable faces and the beloved of millions of fans within and beyond Nigeria.
Alex wasn't a perfect man, but going by the many good testimonies from those who knew him closely, there is no doubt that he worked and aimed deliberately, not to hurt people unnecessarily. He lived with his imperfections, but he didn't let his imperfections define him.
He is fortunate to have a lot of people who appreciate him, who understood him and who are ready to testify about his good life. There are not many people who share such fortune, and Alex should be smiling wherever he is now, if there is a chance to see what happens down here, and if there is some form of life above the graves.
As we join colleagues and fans in the Nollywood industry to celebrate the life and times of this brilliant young man, let us remind ourselves that our days are short and death rarely warns of its imminence. It could be anyone anytime, but let's prepare by living true to our convictions, treating people right and holding no grudges, even when no one notices.
