I've been thinking about Coldsteel's backstory, explaining how he got to the point of willingly joining the Chaos Legion, a team of sadistic genocidal maniacs. But I can't decide whether to have it taken seriously, or just have it be completely insane and ridiculous like.....everything about him would imply.

What do you guys think?

What did you think of ‪@jacksotovo‬'s performance as Seelkadoom in the Goku Black vs Seelkadoom rap battle?

Something tells me that Mecha Sonic wasn't very fond of the Steamworks.

You know, when you think about it, Seelkadoom was really just doing it for the love of the game, wasn't he? He's the definition of fucking around and finding out.

Like, from day 1, he was the uncontested strongest person in Sonic RPG. In his base form alone, he surpasses Super Sonic, who only managed to knock him out when he wasn't at 100%. But then we find out that he had the Chaos Emeralds the entire time. Meaning that, on top of his already absurd power, he could've pulled out Apex Seelkadoom anytime he wanted. And he wouldn't even need to do that to kill everyone, but the fact that he could have and just chose not to is insane.

And there was no reason for him to keep any of the heroes alive, either. They didn't further his goals. They didn't have anything he wanted, at least not initially. He already had the Emeralds. And the Sapphire? Reala knew where it was, and the one guy guarding it just gets oneshot by him. So he could've just INSTANTLY wiped out the team, gone off to get the Sapphire, and boom, he wins forever. Especially since Episode 2 happens a week after Episode 1, and Sonic, the only person on the team who might be able to hold his own against Reala and/or Seelkadoom, was unconscious for that entire period. Seelkadoom had a WEEK to do all of this, and he just didn't.

And he still continued to fuck around throughout the series. Anything bad that happens to him before Episode 8, like Super Sonic knocking him out, is either a result of him playing with his food, choosing not to use the Chaos Emeralds, or both. When he beats up Sonic in Episode 8, he doesn't bother to just kill him. He just leaves him unconscious. And he does this again in Episode 9. He takes out Knuckles, NiGHTS, and Shadow with ease, but he LEAVES THEM ALIVE. Like what are you doing, man?

It's funny because all of this just ends up biting him in the ass later. Starting with Sonic getting back up and turning Hyper, which Seelkadoom just LETS HAPPEN, by the way. And when Sonic was beating his ass, he was still like "nah, I don't need to transform, I got this" until Sonic just kept fucking styling on him, and then FINALLY he decided he had enough, and went Apex. And from that point, he had it in the bag, right? Sonic was running on limited time, so it was only a matter of attrition.

But because Seelkadoom left everyone else alive, Sonic was able to bring up the game plan to Shadow, leading to Knuckles using the Sapphire to stop Seelkadoom from using the Emeralds. And Seelkadoom's brief attempts at stopping this were interrupted by Sonic and a barely conscious NiGHTS. But if he just killed even ONE of them (especially Knuckles like come on) when he had the chance, and he pretty much ALWAYS had the chance, none of that would've happened. But he didn't, and he lost because of that.

I really hate to say this about him, but Seelkadoom was just kind of a dumbass. He had ALL the time in the world to end things instantly, and he just didn't. I mean, other villains do this too, but at least it's usually because the heroes were of some use to them that they were worth keeping alive. The heroes in Sonic RPG didn't even have THAT.

I mean, I guess on the other hand, it's a sign of how confident Seelkadoom was in himself that he never thought he'd have any genuine opposition. And for the most part, he was right to think so. But he kept unnecessarily dragging things out until his fucking around just piled up and it all fell down on him.

You hate to see it.

The latest Invincible episode had me thinking of my AU Seelkadoom, specifically the parallels with him and Thragg.

Both are extremely powerful and skilled. Both are ruthless, willing to commit mass genocide to accomplish their goals. Their goals themselves can essentially be defined as "might makes right", valuing strength above all else, while also insisting on eradicating the weak.

And yet, they earnestly believe that what they're doing is right, between Thragg wanting to restore his people to their former glory as he cares deeply about his race, and Seelkadoom wanting to perfect the multiverse and help others achieve their full potential. They refuse to believe otherwise, regardless of who or what opposes them, but they are still capable of having genuine conversations with others about it, trying to convince them to change their minds. You understand the situations both of them are in, even though they're the worst people imaginable.

I really do adore that kind of villain. The kind of villain that, by all means, should be despised and murdered, but there's something about them that gets you to think about them in a more nuanced fashion. It's never that black-and-white.

A week from now, April 22nd, marks the 20th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Z!

And it looks like Mecha Sonic, everyone's favourite genocidal robot, has something in mind for the occasion.....
