Saving Local History

All my life, I've loved to study history and to explore the beautiful country around me while trying to uncover some of the secrets it holds.

Some of my hobbies have included arrowhead hunting, caving, hunting, fishing, archaeology, playing music, and now metal detecting. I sure wish I'd been able to have recorded some of these exciting outings, but I only have very few photos to remind me of these great times.

The reason I created this channel is to try to document my future adventures and to share them with others so they can enjoy them with me. One of my goals in life has always been to help others enjoy these exciting hobbies and hopefully to entertain the ones who are not able to get out.

I thought hard on a title and finally came up with Saving Local History. My thinking was that no matter where you're at, everything around you is "local" to you. Let's work together to try to save as much of our great history for the people who are to follow us.

Saving Local History

Well folks, it's taken much longer than I expected, but we've finally finished remodeling mom's house to sell.

It will take me a week or so to get everything iron out and to rest a little so hopefully I'll be back detecting very soon. It will probably take me a few days to get back in the groove. I'll have to get everything charged up and try to remember how to operate the detectors, cameras, drone, edit the videos, etc. but at least I see more treasure in sight.

Saving Local History

Well folks, I've really made progress so I'm getting closer to being able to swing my detector again. My sciatica is almost gone but I still have some back and hip pain. I wasn't able to get an MRI due to a speck of rusty metal in my left eye. I have surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30 hopefully to remove it. It will be done in the operating room so I'll have to be put under. If everything goes okay, I should be getting closer to being my "old" self again. Stay tuned.

Saving Local History

Folks, I'm still down in my back and dragging. I had to cancel my MRI due to a possible metal object in my left eye. I've got an appointment with a neurosurgeon next week; maybe he can figure out how to get me back up and running.

Anyway, my YouTube channel has taken a big hit due to my absence and inactivity the past year or so. It's been out of my hands. I feel like I'm on the mend, but it's still going to take some time to be able to finish work on the mom's house and to get back out metal detecting.

I'm trying to relearn my video software and cameras so I can start making videos again soon. Hopefully, I can make some videos of my relic room and relics that I found prior to my YouTube adventures. I've got so many little tricks and methods I've came up with to help me keep track of everything I've found and to keep all my equipment, etc. organized. Not to mention a lot of research methods that I've developed over the years.

I've got 250 videos on my channel right now, I'm sure some of them would be entertaining to you if you'd like to watch them to help me get back onboard.

I posted these milestones to remind me where I stand as I get thing rolling again. I’ve got several great permissions already lined up so I can hit the ground running when my back and the weather cooperates.

Thanks in advance.

Saving Local History

Well folks, I messed up. I have been so busy remodeling mom's house and trying to recover from some bouts with arthritis that I didn't get around to posting any new videos and YouTube stopped the monetization on my channel. I have to requalify. I had worked so hard to get my channel going and now I have to try again. Very soon, I'll be back in full swing, but I've got to get this house sold.

If anyone reads this, I'd appreciate you watching my videos to help me get my watch hours back up. I need 4,000 watch hours over a 365 day period. It would take long if a lot of people watched a few of my videos. I'll try to start posting related videos soon.

Thanks for all the support I have gotten from so many people over the years. I'll be back.....

Saving Local History

Obituary for Elsie Brickey Hogston Adam (My Mom): Please keep us in your prayers. This is the hardest thing I have ever encountered and I'm so heart broken. It may be a while before I can get back out detecting. Here's a link to the funeral arrangements for mom:

UPDATE: Mom is doing great and we would like to thank you all for your prayers and concern. To be 99 and 4 months and in the condition she is in is amazing. Please keep praying that she keeps doing well. Thanks and God bless all of you. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back out soon and continue my metal detecting and other adventures. Family always comes before hobbies; I'll be swinging again soon. Thanks for your support throughout these trying times.

Saving Local History

Folks, it's really taking me some time to get back to my videos. Last Thursday, my mom, Elsie Hogston Adams was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure and the various complications associated with it. This was real scary considering she is 99 years old. Well, after a week in the hospital, she is home and starting to get stronger. Please keep her in your prayers. My wife, Sandy is juggling working and staying with here at night and I'm staying with her during the day. Of course, I'm not able to get out metal detecting right now, but I hope to get back to it very soon. In the meantime, if I can squeeze it in I've got plans to do some metal detecting/Saving Local History associated videos. Right now, I'm completely worn out. Also, I've had a bad stiff neck with a lot of pain for nearly 8 months; finally, I have an appointment on Friday to hopefully figure out the problem and fix it. This getting old ain't no fun. I hope you'll keep watching my videos and subscribe to my channel to keep me motivated. I promise I will be back. Thanks in advance.

Saving Local History

Well folks, pretty much finished the electrical work I was doing. Just one more switch to wire and a few inside lights to put up a little later. I'm letting my hands and body recover a little now. In the meantime, I'm getting my detecting and video gear ready for, hopefully, a lot of metal detecting starting soon. I've been out of commission for so long, I'll have to brush up on not only using my detectors, but making and editing videos again. Please bear with me just a little bit longer. I can't wait to get back out in the "swing" of things.

Saving Local History

Folks, I've been trying to do some electrical work for a friend and I've worked my more poor hands almost to the point of no return. I said that to say this. I'm trying to get all these little projects behind me so I can get back to Saving Local History. I'm doing a few things that seems to be slowing down the arthritis in my hands and kness, but I still have a lot of pain. Every day starts with 1.5 hours of ice on my hands followed by a hot wax bath. That gets me through the day, but at night, my fingers swell to the point that I can't bend them and the pain is tough. I'm betting that the matal detectors and/or shovels won't be nearly as hard on them as the work I've been doing lately. I forgot to mention that I have been doing a lot of concrete work as well. Oh well, I just thought I'd touch base with everyone before they give up on me. I hope everyone is doing great. Thanks again to all of you who support my channel and/or watch my videos. Hopefully I'll have some good ones to share a little later.

Here's a few photos of my hands just a few years ago; they don't look that way anymore.

Saving Local History

I used to have a self-watering bucket garden that contained 85 buckets and was under a 20' x 30' canopy frame. I had to tear down the frame, watering barrels, etc. to have 10 large trees cut down. Cutting up all those trees up and hauling off the brush, really did a number on my hands and knees. I had only found out a month before that I had a very bad case of osteoarthritis; I have no cartilage between most of the joints in my hands.

I decided to do a scaled-down version of my bucket garden to raise a few tomatoes. I took the time and cut the canopy frame up and made a 10’ x 20’ out of it. It was a job digging the footers, etc. I also had 5 tons of gravel delivered and spread it all by hand one shovel full at a time. I mixed all my own soil and had to do all the work manually with only the help of my old John Deere mower and small trailer.

Anyway, enough about that. The reason I’m sharing this it to let you know that I won’t be adding many videos for a while to give my hands a chance to recover a little. The last two nights have been terrible; I’ve slept very little due to the pain.

I’ve got a few more projects I’m trying to get done while I can so I can devote more time to my metal detecting hobby of Saving Local History. My videos are a huge part of my documentation and I plan to do a lot more of them.

I also have plans to do a lot of how-to videos on all the detectors I have at present. I’ve got so many ideas on how to share all the various technology I have used to find sites, etc. There’s a lot of things I’ve been doing that I can’t find anything even similar on the internet that really helps me.

I hope you will continue to watch my videos and that you will subscribe to my channel to help me stay motivated while I recover and try to get some of this necessary work done.

A big thank you to everyone who has helped me on this adventure; especially the ones who have subscribed and/or watch some of my videos.
