Having a jealous parent isn’t a curse I would wish on anyone.

No one understands what it feels like to have a parent literally want you to fail. Who constantly stifled you, who convinced you that the smaller you were, the less you were your authentic self, the safer you’d be. They forced you to confuse THEIR comfort level, with your emotional safety. And over time, you developed this interesting pattern of becoming a one trick pony.

How do you break out of it? Start with asking the question : The part of me that is hurting, angry, pissed, sad, depleted, if they had a chance to speak, what would they say? If they had a chance to create, what would they create? If I could allow the most taboo part of myself to express, What would come through?

3 Harsh truths I would tell my 25 year old self.

I turned 30 last week and this is what I have to say.

I’m so proud of entering my 30’s because my life, my health, my skin, my relationships, MY BUSINESS, everything just keeps gets fucking better.

But I’m gonna be honest.

If I could go back I would tell my younger self 3 specific things that would have completely changed the game for me.

So let’s get into it.

#1 GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND BE FUCKING GREAT. (Aka, You do not in fact, know it all.)

A lie you keep telling yourself: “I know what to do, I just need to be more consistent." You going live more, posting more, all of that does absolutely nothing.

The truth?? If you consistently do the wrong work you’ll fail. Study and invest in your craft so you can do the RIGHT work, not just what’s comfortable.

Olodumare put a purpose on your crown for you to not just walk slowly towards it, but for you to specialize in it. And you specialize in your purpose by studying ALL ANGLES OF IT and becoming the best in your field. Your 20’s are the times to become fucking obsessed with what lights you up. Sharpen your greatest tool (desire) with study, obsession, reading, and diving so deeply into your loved topics that you become an expert. “Jack of all trades” or “serial entrepreneur” all just equals you haven’t found your purpose yet.

Read this twice.

No one is special. There are only people who SPECIALIZE. And if you don’t specialize in something, you’ll have nothing.

You know your favorite writer, creator, artist? Do you know why their success looks so effortless? ITS BECAUSE THEY INVESTED. Your fav’s fav hit the books, hired a mentor, or got the necessary education to stand out in their field. It is NEVER by chance or “skill”. (It 100% of the time, never skill unfortunately.) When I first started my business, I thought I just had to be more visible, go live all the time, post every day…. lol. Just running on a hamster wheel for the sake of running. It wasn’t until I learned the specific steps for marketing anything that things started to really move for me. #2 UNFOLLOW EVERYONE AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

Nothing kills creativity more than consumption. Get your inspiration for your work from your Ori (higher self), from the ethers, from your OWN SHADOW and watch it fucking take off. For about a year I unfollowed everyone and only saw my own work up and down my feed and my creativity was flowing more than it EVER has before.

In your 20’s, you need to be exploring YOURSELF, learning about YOURSELF, and becoming obsessed with YOURSELF (what you’re really good at, what your real purpose is, etc). Giving yourself major cleanses / resets like this one will catapult you and your work.

You don’t create revolutionary art, revolutionary work from being inspired by your peers. You create it from your own taboo desires, fears, and painfully deep insights. The things you’re afraid of saying, of claiming, or being, when you finally co-create with these taboo parts of you, you’ll rediscover the TRUE depths and potential of your own creation. And when you cut out the doom scrolling, when you cut out consuming ANYONE’S CONTENT for at least 2 months, you reset your creativity and tune back into yourself. I used to be terrified of people hating me if I unfollowed them. But when I finally cut the cord and did it cold turkey, somehow external validation and being self conscious both fucking evaporated. And that is exactly what you need in your 20’s, a major cleanse from social validation.


#3 BECOME OBSESSED WITH YOURSELF.

Your 20’s are the time to be as selfish as possible. To fail as fast as you can just so that you can become the best at BEING YOU. To live your life FOR you, AS THE REALEST AND MOST AUTHENTIC VERSION OF YOU. Because if you don’t? You’ll be starting over again at your 30’s, letting go of all the things you THOUGHT you wanted in your 20’s. And hey, nothing wrong with that, but what I’m saying is go ahead and do yourself a favor and stop putting up with bullshit right the fuck now. Because in your 20’s you’ll probably put up with a lot of shit. A lot of shit from fake friends, your family, from that bullshit ass job that you know you want to quit, from that relationship that you don’t want to leave because you've convinced yourself this is the best that you’ll get (spoiler alert, it’s not.)

In my 20s I lived with an ex that refused to help me pay rent. I had friends that ended up drugging me in Jamaica. And I also had too many people in my life wishing me and my business nothing but dust.

WHEN YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH YOURSELF, YOU STOP EATING THE LIE THAT YOU DESERVE LESS. And the result? You’ll stop attracting it.

You start to prioritize the things that bring out the best in you. The leader, teacher, artist in you. The best community member, friend, lover in you. And that person is inherently selfish, because being selfish isn’t being "self centered”, it means the thing you’re the most interested in, is the betterment of YOU (in all ways.)

Oh, honorable mention? You’ll ALWAYS wish you started sooner. So you should just start whatever you want to start… now.

Unless you’re not in enough pain to change your situation.

If thats the case, just accept that you don’t want to change it and delete that dream from your consciousness.

But if you know you’re in MORE THAN ENOUGH pain. If you know if you don’t change, if you don’t start, you’ll fucking go crazy. If you know you don’t want to wake up with another year going by of wishing you just did it….you’re ready for Renaissance.

My biggest mistake of the first 4 years of my business was not LEADING with the thing I was the MOST ASHAMED OF.

The year is 2019. I am healing in New Orleans, beginning my Masters degree and learning more about Ifa every day. I am posting my thoughts online and things are starting to build for me. But one thought keeps coming up in my head.

What if I get canceled?
What if they find out that I was arrested?
What if they find out that people think I’m a terrible person?

When you’re terrified of other people finally seeing you, finally seeing your shadow, you spend every waking second trying to cover it up. You live in constant anxiety, so high strung, waiting for the other shoe to drop that you end up creating a facade. A shell of your work that is just a copy paste of what you think other people will like. And don’t get me wrong, you’ll get by for a while (I did), but your work will NEVER feel like flow. It will always feel like you’re wearing shoes that are just one size too small. And your blessings will feel the same - just never enough.

I kept going, kept growing, all with this shadow growing behind me. My stomach turned even thinking about it. Until one day, I decided to start LEADING with it.
I started seeing my shame, my mistakes, my challenges as part of my ORIGIN STORY rather than a big secret that I had to keep close. I decided to start a youtube video with telling my story, and it was fucking terrifying. My shame holds my WHY, it holds who I do this for, and it holds what I came here to do.

And as I began mastering Self Worship, my biggest secret became my biggest break. Telling my story was the road opener, the relief, the cleanse that I was looking for. And not only did it help me emotionally, it completely opened a new level of school financially.
This was the beginning of me using my shame as a muse for my creativity.

Creation is a collaboration with the present moment, no matter what that moment gives you.
Shame, anxiety, depression, can be divine collaborators when we learn to not judge the art that comes forth.

It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to exist.

I don't believe in shadow healing.
I believe in shadow integration.
The union of selves.

The harmony of the splits of your psyche.

I believe in turning your demons into deities.

After suppressing my shadow long enough to have a blow up that resulted an almost life ruining arrest and homelessness, I decided 8 years ago that the ONLY way to heal was to embrace who I was terrified to be.

I decided that the only way to heal was to fully embrace, completely become, and embody my shadow to the fullest extent because after sitting with it long enough, I realized she didn't want to hurt anyone.. She just wanted to be heard.

So many people are terrified to use their shame as a muse because it might mean that you would become the damned person that others want you to think you ALREADY are. But when you live your life terrified of this outcome, you end up manifesting exactly what you’re afraid of: being cancelled, rejected, and outcasted.

Because you’ve done this to yourself.

You become cancel proof by a process I like to call:
Self Worship.

Self worship is when you consciously choose to become your own personal deity, your own altar, AND your own offering. This alchemical marriage is a lifelong practice that will reveal the deepest most profound results, shifting and changing every single molecule of your life experience. The goal is not material, it transcends reality and your very concept of life itself. Rather, it creates a catalytic vortex of liberation. Through self worship, your life begins.

Stop trying to shove your trauma away and start to co-create with it.

What does it want to say? What does that past version of you want to express? You keep trying to stuff it deeper and deeper into the shadow of your psyche and you wonder why you're possessed by it. Collaborate with it instead.
Collaborate with your shame by using your shadow as your muse.
Collaborate with your fear by running towards it.
Collaborate with your envy by seeing it as a pull to more experiences you've denied yourself in the past.

The version of you who's still trying to shake your trauma is actually your most perfect muse.

Let. Them. Express.

What if I’m not enough?

What if all the things my parents said were right.. What if I’m not smart enough? Not talented enough? What if I’m in over my head?

What in the process of doing what I want to do, I hurt people?

What if I fail?

I have so many ideas. And I get so inspired, so excited, I have moments where I feel like nothing can stop me. I can see the vision. For just a moment I see past my insecurities, I see the other side. The people who are going to love it, the recognition, the abundance.

I see a life where I can finally quit my job and live in my purpose full time.
A life filled with PURPOSE.

But JUST when the vision comes in clear… so do the emotions.
The fear.
The anxiety.
THE FUCKING CRINGE.

When it’s time to finally take action… I can’t.
I do everything BUT what I know I need to do.

The pain that you know you’re feeling:
I can’t bear being seen.
I never feel like I’m good enough.
I don’t trust myself.
I’m deathly afraid of failing.

The pain that you DON’T KNOW you’re carrying:
You’re running from your shadow instead of embracing it- and in running from it, it controls everything you do.
You’re stuck in the loop of trying to run from fear. Trying to “heal your trauma” is just running into the same loop of self resentment over and over again.. Trying to convince yourself you’re good enough, you’re worthy. Even if you move forward a little bit, you flop because you refuse to embrace the darkness that is meant to add DEPTH to your creations.
And so you wait.

You wait until the right moment.

You wait until you have more information, more tools, more skills (spoiler alert, they never come.)

You wait till you have enough money to finally feel comfortable with failing. You tell yourself, at least you’ll have something to fall back on.

But in that space of waiting, you’re living the same life over and over again. You look up and months pass, years pass. You tell yourself every year that it’ll be YOUR year… but somehow it never comes.

There’s another way.

Why my aunt stole 20k from my great-grandmother.
Yes, this has everything to do with you.

This is the story of how my family member stole 20k from my great grandmother. And the trauma that influenced her to do it.

Do you really want money?

Or do you want freedom?
Stability?

Do you want the gag order to be ripped out of your mouth? Do you want permission to be yourself?

The truth is, it was never about the money.

I see a lot of posts of folks dreaming of the days where we went back to cowries shells for currency. The issue is the fact that even if we went back to cowrie shells, or goats, or rocks, you would still have the same issues. The issues with self worth, permission, and authority would be the same, no matter the medium.

Because the marketplace existed before the dollar was in print. And the market place is the space where you must
Stand in your worth.
Own your gifts.
And put yourself out there, with no attachment to the outcome.

With cowrie shells instead of dollars would you have the same issues with standing in your worth no matter who tries to tell you you’re worth nothing?

Would you still have the same issues with authenticity, waiting for someone or something else to finally give you the green light to be yourself? (And thus FINALLY create what you’ve been putting off..)

Would you still be lying to yourself, saying you just don’t know what to create or do, because lying is easier than accepting responsibility over your life?

Because waiting for someone else to save you is easier than deciding to save yourself?

I love you. But….The answer is yes.

A family member of mine stole 20k from her own grandmother because her whole life, she was running.

She thought she was running towards stability, but the truth is, she was running away from responsibility.

What about taking responsibility over your finances, over your skills, over your gifts, scares the shit out of you?

And if you could just steal the money… would you?

What my family has wanted more than anything, ever, was freedom.

Like your typical Caribbean family, my grandmother moved my father and his younger siblings from Trinidad to Staten Island when my father was in high school.

He would tell me stories of having to sleep in the closet to hide from the police. Of racist white people throwing pennies and them in the bus stop, and them having to pick them up because they had so little.

So when my dad joined the army right in college, he did so because he thought it would give him benefits. Money. A debt free college experience. A chance to make it. And most of all - freedom. He took what he could get. And instead of following his heart, he gave into the system. Despite having big dreams of his own he traded it for splenda grade freedom.

But what happens when that freedom costs you your creativity? Your passions? Your integrity?

As soon as you kill the creative, free, authentic aspect of you, it immediately starts haunting you.
Always lurking around the corner. Guilt out of no where. Shame you can’t seem to shake. Unexplainable anxiety. And the worst part? That ghost tries to push your entire life out of alignment, in order to get your attention.

Things work out… but not quite. The mark is always JUST missed. You never live in complete overflow because when you make decisions out of lack, and take the easy way out, your life will always be a reflection of that: lack and shortcuts.

When my family member started stealing money, it reflected the beliefs that were embedded into her since childhood. The same money stories that she grew up with dictated every decision she made. Money is always running out. We’ll never have enough. We have to do what we can to get by.

And because my grandmother (bless her heart I still love her to death) never taught her children that they were powerful and do ANYTHING THEY WANTED with their lives, her children suffered.

The suffering with my father, looked like settling.

The suffering with my aunt, looked like stealing.

Someone else always has to save me.

I personally cannot do what it takes to lift myself out of this situation.

And the most painful one?

I’ll always be alone. So I might as well take what I can get.

When we try to manifest more money, we’re always trying to manifest something deeper. And most of us, are trying to manifest either freedom, or stability. But the truth? There’s secret pleasure you get from being unstable. Because if you’re aways unstable, you have never have to take responsibility. If you’re unstable, someone else will always have to save you. And this gives you pleasure because deep down, you don’t want freedom. Because you secretly don’t trust yourself with it.

Or do you?

Are you ready to be free?

Are you finally ready to take responsibility over your life, and resurrect the version of you that you had to kill, in order to live in a splenda grade sweetness?

The thing here is, you need equal parts resurrection, and equal parts education.

Education on how to actually position yourself in the marketplace to attract in exactly who your work is for.

What it really means to “sell your soul”.

Ifa, celebrities, and Becoming your Own Archetype.

In the era of AI- you will only survive if you become your own archetype.

And if you have a celebrity fave you might just need to break up with them to realize your own creative potential.

Let me explain.

We all come from the same place.

We are all higher dimensional beings, projecting our consciousness into this reality.

In Ifa we call this place, our home, Orun. The invisible realm. The realm of the unseen, “heaven”, our place of origin. Before things are manifested, they must first take their form in Orun.

Why are words “spells”?

Because your throat chakra, or vishuddha, is connected to the 5th subtle body: the etheric template body. The Etheric template level of reality is the dark space made of ether that is shaped by sound. The vibration of sound is carried from the etheric template realm and begins to take form as it passes through the “lower” dimensions until it reaches the physical plane.

Sound healing works because it targets the etheric template body. The blueprint of our physical one. The body that exists before the manifestation of this physical body. The sound healing repairs the subtle bodies that manifest this one.

Think of it like a dark polaroid. Even though the photo is dark, it contains the blueprint of the colors that start to come to life with time. The etheric body is the blueprint of our physical body. Therefore your words are the blueprint , through the element of sound, that the physical reality then follows.

Omilana, what the hell does this have to do with celebrities?

I’m bout to tell you.

We all have three layers of consciousness.

Conscious : what you’re aware of

Personal Unconscious : events + emotions that have happened but are suppressed by the ego, but absorbed subliminally

The Collective Unconscious: instincts and archetypes

Celebrities aren’t “lucky people”. A certain level of stardom requires compliance to a specific archetype. A blueprint made by someone else, that they’re required to fill. Celebrities like Sabrina Carpenter don’t just wake up one day and decide they want to start promoting pedophilia adjacent content/images. They decide to say yes to embodying an archetype in order to receive more (more money, more access, more fame). In this case, the archetype would be the lolita.

The process of “selling out” or “selling your soul” is simply giving up your rights to your personal, original, soul blueprint in exchange for one that can be controlled. If you abide by the rules and say yes to one of the archetypes already created before your inception, then you can be packaged and marketed. You can be given a “glow up” which is only solidifying you physically, spiritually, and emotionally further into your prescribed archetype.

Celebrities garner so much attention not because they are particularly interesting, but because they play into specific archetypes that many people don’t give themselves permission to embody. Ones etched into our collective unconscious since birth, through media, books, social norms.

When you’re obsessed with someone, say a celebrity, someone social media, your ex, or a long lost childhood bff, it’s not because you actually miss them.

Rather, you yearn for what they represent TO YOU. Who they gave you permission to be or become, or a glimpse into what you WANT to become.

They represent a light post in your psyche of something that you deeply crave, but don’t give yourself permission to explore.

Singers/musicians in particular are slaves to this archetype system, because they create sound.

Through sound, our own voices, what we consistently listen to , we can get a glimpse of the life we are creating around us. The more we sing along, the more our lives look like what we’re singing about. When you have certain characters/archetypes singing about things that further reinforce a specific archetype, the sound etches their stories further into our psyche.

Sound shapes the layer of our unconscious even BEYOND the personal unconscious. It shapes our collective unconscious.

In Ifa, these archetypes are not soul-less figures at the met gala, rather they are divine archetypes that we see in nature.

We see the free flowing nature of creativity and beauty itself in Oshun’s rivers.

We see the energy of unconditional nurturing and comfort in Yemoja’s oceans.

We feel the wisdom and the epitome of enlightenment in Obatala’s mountains.

We feel the power of transformation in Oya’s winds.

And the list goes on.

The Orisha don’t just represent aspects of nature, but they also represent how the Divine moves within our own body, emotion, and spirit.

From the stories of the Orishas, we don’t just learn about ancient patakis of wisdom, we learn about ourselves. The ways in which our own lives, even our own emotions, mirror nature and thus are divine and powerful.

When divinity is depicted from many different lenses and different faces, we can begin to see even the “flawed” aspects of ourselves as divine as well.

Ifa is a technology of mental decolonization, because it reframes the unconscious.

Instead of unknowingly prescribing yourself to archetypes created by the colonial capitalist system, you begin to see yourself and the world through a more ancient, nature based set of archetypes which give you a deeper glimpse into yourself and your own Divinity. Rather than unconsciously succumbing to propaganda that only seeks to disempower you, you become empowered through the faces of the divine in nature.

Trade out your worship of Beyonce for devotion to your own Ori or to Oshun, and watch your life begin to change.

This is the thing about celebrities and mind control.

They are only given power through your attention. Without your attention, they have nothing.

And the only reason why they have your attention, is because they spark something in your unconscious, something that you yearn for. An archetype. A blueprint.

Slowly but surely, you start to associate your interests with theirs.

Their hobbies with yours.
Their way of dressing with yours.
Their romantic choices with yours.

Everything that they do, you subconsciously ask yourself could I do that too? Some people have made entire tiktok accounts or a living off of that simple question: Can I do that too? Aka : Judgment of self through the medium of another.

Celebrities shape culture because they represent the archetypes we don’t give ourselves permission to become.

Ones that we are taught to pedestalize. Ones that we are taught are the pinnacle of success.
You don’t like that celebrity because of who they are. You like them because of what they represent to you. You like them because they give you a glimpse of who you could be. You like them because they are a mirror image of you, one that is complete and realized. Through your study of them, your attention and energy only fuels their power. You shift the energy that you could be using to become more of you, to becoming more of a fan of them.

In the era of AI- you will only survive if you become your own archetype.

The era of illusion is done.

Celebrity worship is dead.

Even influencer culture is dying as well.

Allow the part of you that worships others to die right along with it. Have a funeral for it. And when you’re done, you’ll resurrect your own erotic creativity; a long lost friend that has never left you, you’ve only been directing it else where.
And when your own erotic creativity fuels your life, you won’t need to escape anymore. You’ll finally come home.

Am I in a cult?

Is Ifa a cult?

My partner showed me a story on tiktok yesterday about a woman who joined a cult in west Hollywood and chile, we were SAT.

The story time described blood rituals, mirror gazing for hours long, and being buried in the woods all night to feel at one with the earth. All of this was to “unlock her true potential.”

Of course, it got me thinking, and it got us talking in depth about new age spirituality vs my ancestral practice (Ifa).

Is Ifa a cult too?

My partner looked at me and asked Is that what yall do in rituals too?

I laughed and said no. What we do is very different. Of course, from Isefa (first hand of Ifa) to Itefa (second hand/priesthood initiation) to Orisha initiations, every ceremony is different. But I told them..

Besides the fact what they described is very far from what we do, the major difference between Ifa and this is that there was no clear end goal for her. In Ifa, the quest for your “true potential” is clearly defined by Iwa-pwele (patience, gentle character, humility.) Here, it’s never defined, which made her feel like she had to do EVERYTHING because she had no idea where the finish line was.

If you never clearly define your goal, you’ll spend your life chasing a finish line that moves farther from you with each step.

Of course I can’t share what happens in ritual. But I can say this.

Something I’ve noticed in New age Spirituality (as yall know I grew up with a white hippy mom who raised me in this from a young age) is that there is no end. There is always another step, another “level”, more of your potential you can “unlock.” So many people get sucked down the rabbit hole of new age spirituality, constantly working on themselves.

Not because there’s anything “wrong” with them.

But because in New Age Spirituality, there is no clear definition of what each “level” looks like. It’s a huge free for all, anything goes. You can take what you want from any tradition you please, to twist and turn it into something you want it to be. You make up the rules along the way. But in ancient spiritual traditions (beyond Ifa) there are clear roles, clearly defined initiatory processes, and clear goals that communities strive towards.

And that is the exact reason why people leave Ifa.

(Before you tussle with me) Well, one of them.

When folks come from the abrahamic religions into this ancestral practice, many times they get triggered by the levels.

Teacher, Student.

Aborisha, Sode, Awo, Chief

Each title is not something you give to yourself. The title comes with confirmation from Ifa. It comes from days, even weeks of ceremony. It comes with a deeper commitment and larger responsibility.

Each initiation is clearly defined, as are the roles of each one. You can’t just jump around and put Priestess in your bio because you felt good that day.

To be in an ancestral practice means to have a lineage. You have a teacher, and that teacher comes from another teacher, and another, and a line of teachers.

This is part of the significance of your Ifa name given to you in ceremony. It doesn’t just represent your purpose in life or your destiny, it represents who you come from .

My name is Iyawo (newly initiated priest) Omilana (Yemoja / Water opens a way) Ifáshadùn (Ifa makes sweetness)  Egbebunmi (Egbe adds to me) Ekundayo (the linage of my Iya) Ifayemi (The lineage of the Babalawo who gave me my first hand in Ifa).

Each name is each initiation. Each promise. Each responsibility. And each teacher I’ve learned from.

Because each initiation takes time, confirmation from Ifa, and dozens of hands, hours of study, and years of embodiment, alot of folks get triggered.

Why can’t I have it all right now?

Why can’t I do/say/claim certain things now?

Why can’t I just teach myself?

The hierarchy doesn’t come from ego, it comes from experience. Without the wisdom of our Elders, we would have nothing. Without the passing down of this oral tradition from generation to generation, we would have nothing. Being in this tradition means respecting those who came before you. And when you’re coming from an abrahamic religion (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) respecting elders can be triggering, because it was elders who have perpetuated religious trauma in your past.

In Ifa, we all strive for Iwa-pele. Gentle character. Patience. A Cool Head. Personal responsibility. And your first and best teacher/guide will always be your OWN ORI. But just as everything manifests in the unseen before birthing itself through us into the seen, we must have both; the inner teacher, and the external teacher.

Cults are easy to join, hard to leave.

They make you feel less than, and manipulate you into seeing yourself as something that needs to be saved, improved, or fixed.

Ifa meets you where you are in divine perfection, gives you to tools to connect in with yourself, and aids you in reuniting with what is already here. There is nothing to fix. The goal is clear (iwa-pele). And what you are striving for is always available to you at any given moment (alignment with your Ori.)

But what do I know, these are just MY thoughts.
