Sometimes the best investment you can make… is an hour for yourself.

This morning I took “Ole Girl” (don’t worry… not my wife! 😄).

I’m talking about Blue Baby—our 20-year-old Porsche Cayman S that has become my favorite therapy session on four wheels.

Windows down.
Music turned up.
No schedule.
No rush.

The drive eventually led me to the beautiful campus of the University of North Georgia.

As surgeons, entrepreneurs, parents, and professionals, we’re constantly focused on taking care of everyone else. It’s easy to forget that our own minds need maintenance too.

This morning reminded me that self-care doesn’t always have to be elaborate.

Sometimes it’s simply…
• taking the long way home,
• appreciating the beauty around you,
• practicing gratitude,
• and giving yourself permission to be present.

Ironically, when we slow down for a moment, we often come back sharper, more creative, and better prepared to serve others.

Today I’m grateful for good health, beautiful North Georgia, a 20-year-old sports car that still makes me smile, and another opportunity to do work I genuinely love.

Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day to the woman who somehow survived raising me in the era before Google, parenting blogs, and childproof everything.

This photo captures my mother when she was still so young herself — less than 30, with me tagging along at age 3 or 4, convinced she knew absolutely everything.
Turns out… I was right.

Now decades later, I understand more clearly the strength, sacrifice, patience, and love that shaped not only my childhood, but the person I became.

Time moves quickly, but a mother’s love has a remarkable way of staying timeless.
