18 Years Later: Gujarat High Court Upholds Convictions in Ahmedabad Blast Case

On 26 July 2008, Ahmedabad was rocked by 21 coordinated bomb blasts within just 70 minutes. The attacks claimed 56 innocent lives and left more than 200 people injured, making it one of the deadliest terror incidents in India's history.

After years of investigation, trial, and legal proceedings, 49 Muslim individuals were convicted for their roles in the conspiracy and execution of the attacks.

Now, 18 years later, the Gujarat High Court has upheld the trial court's verdict, confirming the death sentences of 38 convicts while maintaining life imprisonment for the remaining 11.

The judgment marks a significant milestone in one of India's longest-running terrorism cases. It reflects the conclusion of an extensive judicial process involving multiple agencies, witnesses, forensic evidence, and years of court hearings.

The case remains a reminder of the devastating human cost of terrorism and the importance of justice through due legal process.

Why E20 Petrol Is a Smart Move for India's Future ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณโ›ฝ

Social media is flooded with claims that E20 petrol will destroy engines or harm vehicles. But does the evidence support those fears? The answer is far more balanced.

E20 fuel, containing 20% ethanol and 80% petrol, is not an Indian experiment. Countries such as Brazil, Paraguay, Thailand and the United States have successfully used ethanol-blended fuels for many years. Their experience demonstrates that modern vehicles designed for these blends operate safely and efficiently.

For India, E20 is about far more than cleaner fuel. The nation imports over 85% of its crude oil, making it vulnerable to global conflicts, supply disruptions and volatile prices. Increasing ethanol blending helps reduce oil imports, strengthens energy security, saves valuable foreign exchange and supports Indian farmers by creating demand for domestically produced ethanol from sugarcane and surplus or damaged food grains.

Modern vehicles manufactured in recent years are increasingly E20-compliant, while owners of older vehicles should simply follow their manufacturer's recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Rather than falling for sensational headlines, it is worth understanding the economic, strategic and environmental reasons behind India's transition towards ethanol-blended fuel. Energy independence is not achieved overnight, but every step towards reducing dependence on imported oil strengthens the nation's future.

Pakistan's Harappan Identity Debate

Pakistan's increasing emphasis on its pre-Islamic heritage, particularly the Indus Valley (Harappan) Civilisation, has ignited a wider debate over national identity and geopolitics. Some analysts argue that this represents a significant shift from decades of promoting an identity centred primarily on Islamic history and links with the Arab world.

Supporters believe recognising the region's ancient civilisations provides a more complete understanding of Pakistan's historical roots and cultural diversity. Critics, however, contend that this renewed focus is less mtional history or a calculated geopolitical narrative remains a matter of opinion and continues to generate debate among historians, political commentators, and policymakers.

What do you think? Is Pakistan genuinely reconnecting with its ancient civilisational past, or is this primarily an exercise in international image-building?

Bengal Removes 77 Muslim Communities from OBC List

The West Bengal Assembly has passed new OBC Amendment Bills that remove 77 Muslim communities from the existing Other Backward Classes (OBC) list while introducing a revised reservation framework. Under the new arrangement, the OBC quota share is proposed to be 7%, replacing the earlier 17% structure.

The development comes after legal scrutiny of the state's previous OBC classification process. The government has stated that the new legislation aims to establish a revised framework in line with constitutional and legal requirements. The decision is expected to have significant implications for reservation policy, public administration, and future recruitment and admissions across the state.

The Bills have already sparked political debate, with supporters arguing that the amendments seek to address legal concerns, while critics question their impact on affected communities. The issue is likely to remain under close public and judicial scrutiny in the coming months.

As with all policy matters, the final implementation and any further legal developments will determine the long-term impact of these changes.

Pakistani Student Jailed for Hospital Car Park Rape

A Pakistani student has been sentenced to 8 years and 3 months' imprisonment after admitting the rape of a vulnerable woman in a hospital car park in Worthing, England.

The attack took place on 11 March after the victim left Worthing Hospital. According to court proceedings, the woman was intoxicated, confused, and unsteady on her feet when the offender, Suleman Mukaish (27), forced her onto the bonnet of a car and raped her.

The victim was later discovered by a member of the public, who alerted the authorities. Investigators identified Mukaish through forensic evidence and arrested him two days later at Gatwick Airport, where he was reportedly carrying a one-way ticket to Pakistan.

During sentencing, Judge Christine Henson KC stated that the victim had been attacked while "at her most vulnerable." Mukaish, who had been studying in the United Kingdom on a student visa and had completed a master's degree in computer science, admitted the offence. In addition to his prison sentence, he will remain on an extended licence for a further three years after his release.

The case has renewed discussions surrounding public safety, protection of vulnerable individuals, and the importance of swift criminal investigations and justice.
