Congratulations to NewsClick and Prabir Purkayastha. A short note
accompanying this text interview I did with him.
The Delhi High Court has thrown out the cases filed by the Economic
Offences Wing and the Enforcement Directorate against NewsClick.
It's good news, not just for NewsClick but for all citizens in a
democracy. Like many journalists, I have watched the targeting of
this independent news company with dismay. I hope this is the
first step towards a complete exoneration. There are other cases
that continue, including one filed inexplicably under the
anti-terror law, the UAPA.
Additional information: In October 2023, The New York Times
published a report alleging that NewsClick was an Indian media
company that had received Chinese funds to do propaganda on its
behalf — an allegation that was used by the government against
NewsClick.
