Okay: so, what exactly is a ghost country?
Well, it's kind of a catch-all term I made for countries that no longer exist, have limited recognition, and/or may exist in the future.
They're sort of here, sort of not - like a ghost.
But, even if long dead or not officially recognized, a country can still have a lasting impact. Consider ancient Rome, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, or Soviet Union. Of course many smaller, less-well known countries have left their mark too. And, this is true all over the world. From Aceh to Zaire and everything in between, we plan to cover it all!
Episodes are uploaded once or twice a month initially, which I hope to make bi-weekly going forward.
In addition to our regular videos, we have an ongoing podcast discussing the legacy of various ghost countries, ghost geography, the history behind flags, and other miniseries planned.
If you have any suggestions for a country to be covered in a future video, let us know.

Okay, I’m trying something a bit different here—You Rule the Map puts the decision in your hands: borders, unions, and geopolitical “what ifs” that could change history.
So, if you could peacefully redraw one of these borders, which would you choose?

📣 Okay, since the last poll ended in a 50/50 split (Wrangel Island vs the Izu Peninsula) I will be publishing both episodes! Izu Peninsula is going up today and Wrangel Island will be out sometime next week. I've actually wanted to publish 2+ Shorts per week for a while, but the algorithm hasn’t always seemed to agree.
So, if I were to start adding a second weekly Short, which day would you prefer?

🇬🇧 🏴 Plaid Cymru, a center-left party that supports Welsh independence from the United Kingdom, has won the Welsh Senedd elections, ending 100 years of Labour dominance in Wales.
The Plaid win makes a Welsh independence referendum a future possibility, and means all three of the UK’s Celtic nations will now be controlled by separatist parties.
Reform UK came second, pushing Labour into a distant third place. Plaid won 43 seats, Reform 34, Labour nine, the Conservatives seven, Greens two and Liberal Democrats one.
Speaking in Llandudno, north Wales, the party's leader Rhun ap Iorwerth said: “The people of Wales have today decided on the next steps in Wales’s journey. Plaid Cymru now stands ready to take the necessary steps to form the next government.
Under Wales’s new, more representative electoral system, at least 49 seats are needed for a majority. No party was likely to win that, but Friday’s results mean Plaid Cymru can comfortably form a minority government.
