๐Ÿท New Series Complete: GARMENT COSTING

Before a garment ever reaches a store...

Before it's photographed...

Before it's worn...

Someone has to determine what it costs to make.

That's what this new series is all about.

Over the past four videos, we've explored the fundamentals of garment costing:

๐Ÿท What Is Garment Costing?

๐Ÿงต Why Fabric Costs Matter

๐Ÿ“ฆ What's Included In Garment Costing?

๐Ÿค Who Decides What A Garment Costs?

Whether you're a fashion enthusiast, student, designer, brand owner, or simply curious about how clothing is made, understanding garment costing helps explain why products are priced the way they are and how decisions are made throughout the apparel industry.

Every series on this channel is designed to build another piece of the bigger picture.

Because fashion isn't just about what we wear...

It's about the people, processes, and business behind every garment.

๐Ÿ“ข COMMUNITY POST

๐Ÿงฎ NEW SERIES COMPLETE: FASHION RETAIL MATH

When most people think about fashion, they think about designers, runways, and trends.

But behind every garment is a business.

Over the past week, we've explored five concepts that shape how retailers and brands make everyday decisions:

๐Ÿงฎ Why A $20 Garment Doesn't Sell For $20

๐Ÿท๏ธ What Is Keystone Pricing?

๐Ÿ“Š What Is Gross Margin?

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Why Retailers Have Sales

๐Ÿ’ต Why Full Price Matters

These aren't just retail termsโ€”they're part of the business foundation that keeps fashion moving.

Whether you're a fashion enthusiast, student, entrepreneur, or simply curious about how the industry works, understanding these concepts gives you a new perspective every time you walk into a store.

At L.A. Rag Maker, we're building a growing library that explores the structure of the fashion industryโ€”from the factory floor to the marketplace.

๐Ÿฌ RETAIL RELATIONSHIPS

Most people see the finished product.

Few see the business relationships that make it possible.

Behind every successful fashion brand is more than great design.

There are retailers...

Buyers...

Sales representatives...

And long-term partnerships built on trust, consistency, and performance.

Our latest series explores the business side of retail:

๐Ÿ“ Why Some Brands Get Better Placement In Stores

๐Ÿ“ What Retailers Need From Brands

๐Ÿ“ Why Some Brands Lose Floor Space

๐Ÿ“ How Long-Term Retail Partnerships Are Built

Fashion isn't just about creating products.

It's about creating relationships that last.

Which topic surprised you the most?

L.A. Rag Maker Perspective

Most people think fashion endorsements are about fame.

They're not.

They're about strategy.

When a brand partners with someone like Cardi B, Travis Scott, Sydney Sweeney, or Law Roach, they're not simply hiring a celebrity.

They're buying:

โ€ข Access to a specific audience
โ€ข Cultural relevance
โ€ข Credibility
โ€ข Emotional connection
โ€ข Long-term brand equity

Every endorsement is a business decision.

That's what inspired my latest video:

๐ŸŽฅ The Marketing Strategy Behind Fashion Endorsements

It breaks down why brands spend millions on the right partnershipsโ€”and what they're really trying to accomplish.

Question for you:

Which fashion endorsement do you think has been the smartestโ€”and why?

๐Ÿ‘‡ I'd love to hear your thoughts.

๐Ÿ’ฐ THE MONEY SIDE OF FASHION

Most people understand fashion design.

Some understand manufacturing.

A few understand wholesale.

But one of the least discussed parts of the fashion industry is money.

How do fashion brands pay for production before products are sold?

Why do companies with strong sales sometimes struggle financially?

What exactly is factoring, and why has it been important to the Los Angeles apparel industry for decades?

Our latest series explores the financial side of fashion:

๐Ÿ“ Why Cash Flow Matters More Than Sales

๐Ÿ“ How Fashion Brands Pay For Production

๐Ÿ“ What Is Factoring In The Apparel Industry?

Because behind every garment is a business.

And behind every successful fashion business is a financial system most people never see.

Which topic surprised you the most?

๐Ÿงต NEW SERIES: SUPPLY CHAIN & SOURCING

Most people see the finished garment.

Few people see the supply chain that made it possible.

Before a garment reaches a cutting table, sewing machine, showroom, retailer, or customer...

Someone had to source the fabric.

Our newest L.A. Rag Maker series explores one of the most important โ€” and least understood โ€” parts of the fashion business:

๐Ÿ“ Where Do Los Angeles Fashion Brands Source Fabric?

๐Ÿ“ What Is A Fabric Jobber?

๐Ÿ“ Why Fabric Sourcing Can Make Or Break A Fashion Brand

These aren't just fashion topics.

They're business topics.

Because fabric affects:

โœ”๏ธ Quality
โœ”๏ธ Cost
โœ”๏ธ Lead Times
โœ”๏ธ Profitability

And ultimately, whether a product succeeds in the marketplace.

Question for the community:

What part of the fashion supply chain would you like us to cover next?

๐Ÿ”˜ Textile Mills
๐Ÿ”˜ Fabric Converters
๐Ÿ”˜ Trim Suppliers
๐Ÿ”˜ Dye Houses
๐Ÿ”˜ Fabric Agents

What's the most overlooked part of the fashion industry?

๐Ÿ”˜ Fabric Sourcing
๐Ÿ”˜ Product Development
๐Ÿ”˜ Production Planning
๐Ÿ”˜ Quality Control

L.A. Rag Maker Perspective

Most people experience fashion at the surface level:

the celebrity,
the trend,
the luxury image,
the marketing.

But underneath every garment is an entire hidden system:
manufacturing,
logistics,
showrooms,
warehouses,
branding strategy,
production pressure,
technology,
labor,
survival.

The fashion industry is much bigger than most people realize.

New video tonight:

L.A. Rag Maker Perspective

For a long time, I didnโ€™t fully realize why creating L.A. Rag Maker felt so important to me.

But working on these videos reminded me that fashion has been part of my life since I was young โ€” teaching myself how to sew at 13 years old, making garments before I even finished high school, eventually attending FIDM, and spending years inside the real Los Angeles apparel industry.

This channel isnโ€™t just about trends or fashion commentary.

Itโ€™s about documenting culture, creativity, garment history, manufacturing, survival, reinvention, and sharing knowledge I wish I had when I first started.

And honestlyโ€ฆ creating these videos has become therapeutic for me too.

I know there are other creatives out there trying to find their place in fashion, art, and creative life. Hopefully this channel can offer something real to those people.

โ€œWhy I Started L.A. Rag Makerโ€ is now live.
