#KENYA: PETITION FILED TO BLOCK EBOLA QUARANTINE SITE IN KENYA FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS EXPOSED IN DRC
Katiba Institute has filed an urgent petition at the High Court in Nairobi challenging plans to establish an Ebola quarantine and treatment facility in Kenya for American citizens and other foreign nationals exposed to highly infectious diseases.

The petition, lodged through Counsel Joshua Malidzo, names the Attorney‑General and the Cabinet Secretary for Health as respondents.

Katiba Institute argues that the move raises grave constitutional concerns, warning that the government cannot expose Kenyans to significant health risks without public participation, parliamentary oversight, and full disclosure of agreements.

Among the orders sought are halting the facility’s operations, barring entry of exposed persons, compelling the Health Ministry to present a contingency plan within 24 hours, and mandating disclosure of all terms and assessments tied to the arrangement.

Executive Director Nora Mbagathi said the case is about safeguarding constitutional accountability and protecting public health, stressing that expediency must never be placed above the lives and safety of Kenyans.

#KENYA: CHADEMA WINS OBJECTION AS HIGH COURT STRIKES OUT PROPERTY ROW
The High Court in Dar es Salaam has struck out a case seeking division of property belonging to Tanzania’s opposition party CHADEMA.
The petition, filed by former Deputy Chairperson Said Mohamed and two members of the party’s Board of Trustees from Zanzibar, was dismissed after the court found the pleadings defective.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Ngunyale said the claimants failed to indicate when the alleged breach began, leaving the court unable to establish jurisdiction.
He noted that the statement of claim contained fundamental gaps, giving weight to CHADEMA’s objection.

#KENYA: RUTO DENIES COERCION IN TRANSPORT STRIKE CALL-OFF, DEFENDS FUEL POLICY
President William Ruto has rejected claims that his government forced transport leaders to abandon their strike, saying the decision was reached freely after marathon talks in Mombasa.
Addressing the National Prayer Breakfast, Ruto explained that the three‑hour meeting focused on fuel pricing, subsidy pitfalls, and lessons from past crises. He said the leaders themselves resolved to suspend the strike once the facts were laid bare.
The Head of State dismissed suggestions of government arm‑twisting, stressing that the outcome was shaped by evidence rather than coercion.
He recalled the 2022 fuel shortage that greeted his presidency, warning against reckless subsidy policies that drained taxpayers of more than Sh150 billion without stabilizing supply.
Ruto defended his administration’s approach as pragmatic and historically informed, urging Kenyans to avoid repeating costly mistakes while ensuring sustainable fuel management.

#KENYA: JUBILEE TAKES STATE TO COURT OVER POLITICAL PARTIES FUND
The Jubilee Party has moved to the High Court in Nairobi, accusing government institutions of starving political parties of their rightful share of the Political Parties Fund.
In its urgent petition, Jubilee argues that the Treasury and other state offices have consistently failed to meet the legal threshold requiring at least 0.3 per cent of national revenue to be set aside for party financing.
The party insists this underfunding undermines fair competition, especially at a time of shifting alliances and coalition talks.
Treasurer Dick Kagwe Gichoho, in a sworn affidavit, said Jubilee qualifies for the fund and is entitled to equal treatment under the law.
He cited a 2019 Court of Appeal ruling that affirmed parties must receive full statutory allocations, including arrears from past budgets.
