Assam and India mourn the sudden loss of legendary singer Zubeen Garg. On 19th September 2025, Zubeen Garg tragically passed away in Singapore at the age of 52. He suffered a fatal seizure while scuba diving and swimming without a life jacket during a yacht trip at Lazarus Island. Despite immediate CPR and rushed treatment at Singapore General Hospital, he was declared dead in the ICU.
Zubeen Garg was not just a singer but an icon who gave voice to Assamese culture and connected millions through his soulful music. His hit song ‘Ya Ali’ brought him national fame, and over his 33-year career, he recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages.
Following his death, the Government of Assam declared three days of state mourning from 20th to 22nd September. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed deep sorrow, calling Zubeen ‘more than just a singer’ and a unifying force for the people of Assam.
Zubeen’s mortal remains were brought back to Guwahati from Singapore, where fans, friends, and family paid their heartfelt tributes to this beloved cultural legend.
His music and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of millions of fans across India and beyond. Rest in peace, Zubeen Garg — your voice will never fade away."
