Pyonghattan is focused on the uncensored truth about North Korea—the place where we grew up. We're Seohyun and Hyunseung Lee—siblings who were raised in Pyongyang, educated in China, and escaped North Korea in 2014. We share about our lives and experiences from the perspective of millennials who have lived under the world's most totalitarian state.

We want to provide informative and educational content to help the world understand the true nature of the Kim regime, the reality of life in North Korea, and what real people in North Korea think and want.

Above all, we look to the day when North Korea’s people will be free.

🇰🇵 From Silence to Leadership: Why I Founded the North Korean Young Leaders Assembly
When I first escaped from North Korea, I believed my voice didn’t matter.
I had spent my life in a country where speaking out meant punishment — or worse. But everything changed the day I stood in Washington, D.C., and told my story to U.S. and UN leaders.

Not just as a survivor — but as someone determined to shape a better future.
That’s why I founded the North Korean Young Leaders Assembly (NKYLA).
Each year, we bring together brave North Korean escapees — young men and women who risked everything for freedom — and equip them with the tools, knowledge, and global networks to lead change.
Not in silence, but with strength.

For the past two years, NKYLA has empowered the next generation of North Korean voices.
They’ve met with policymakers, spoken at the UN, and stood on global stages most of us never imagined we’d see.

Now we’re preparing for our 2025 program, but we need your help.
The cost of visas, flights, housing, and training is growing — and we can't do this without support from people who believe in the power of freedom, education, and truth.

🌍 If you believe in a future where 25 million North Koreans can live with dignity and rights,
✊ If you want to invest in real leaders for that future,
🙏 Please consider supporting us today.
🧡 Every dollar helps. Every share matters. Every act of belief gives us strength.

🎧 Featured on @BBC Trending: Could Your Colleague Be a North Korean in Disguise?

I (Hyunseung) recently joined the BBC Trending podcast to uncover one of the most alarming cybersecurity and human rights threats of our time: North Korean IT workers infiltrating remote tech jobs in the U.S. and beyond.
Thousands of these workers are posing as freelance developers using fake or stolen identities — not for personal gain, but to secretly funnel millions of dollars back to Kim Jong Un’s regime. Behind every blurred Zoom face could be a state-controlled operative working under intense surveillance, exploited and silenced.
This isn’t just a cybercrime issue — it’s a global security and ethical crisis.

Are you hiring one of them without realizing it?
