Cuckoo Angela saddened by the loss of BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4801.

In 2006, BNSF 4801 was in Newnan, Georgia, trailing on a CSX intermodal train, when the lead locomotive (CSX Dash 8-40CW 7672) collided with a semi truck and all 4 locomotives (CSX 7672, LTEX 8532, CSX 8038 and BNSF 4801) and several intermodal cars derailed. BNSF 4801 was completely destroyed and half of its cab was sheared off when the intermodal cars piled up. It was damaged beyond repair and scrapped.

With July just around the corner, here are my top catches of June 2026.

June has marked the first time I caught a train in a state other than Alabama since 2022. In this case, it’s Mississippi.

I’m hoping to catch more trains along the NS 3B South District later this summer.

I got good news and sad news for railfans. The good news is I finally caught CN A489 in Mississippi. The sad news is the Safetran hybrid bell on Little Creek Road has unfortunately been replaced with a Safetran Type 3 just like the one on Howells Ferry Road.

Speaking of my HO Scale BNSF GP40M, I plan on replacing the front coupler on it sometime after this summer. And I’ll be running it and my remaining working TOMY train together once I get the front coupler replaced. I do apologize if my room is in a bit of a mess, though.


I’ll need to get a bigger table and some extra HO Scale train tracks so that I can run more cars behind my HO Scale BNSF locomotive sometime in the future.

Cuckoo Loca saddened by the loss of Norfolk Southern Dash 9-40CW 9939.

In 2014, NS 9939 was in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, pulling a Union Pacific freight train, when it derailed after colliding with a semi truck that was stuck on the tracks. NS 9939 was completely destroyed in the derailment and was sent away to be scrapped.

I ended up not catching Amtrak Mardi Gras Service Train 23 since it was delayed. I then tried catching CN A489 and it too was delayed. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t catch a train on neither the CN Beaumont Subdivision nor the CSX NO&M Subdivision. I’ll be catching Amtrak Mardi Gras Service Train 23 some other time.


However, I’ll see if I can catch a CSX freight train at this crossing in Grand Bay within the next 2 months. Not to worry, I still plan on catching CN A489 in Mississippi next weekend. Thankfully, this crossing still retains its Safetran Type 3 and NEG E-bell combo.

Saw CSX ES40DC 5390 running lite on Rangeline Road earlier today, but I wasn’t able to catch it since it was already starting to move by the time I got near the Rangeline Road crossing.
