People think the hardest part of remote work right now is finding jobs.

But honestly…

I think it’s the emotional whiplash of it all.

You find a role.
You get hopeful.
You click the link.

And it’s gone.

Or flooded.
Or not hiring in your state or region.
Or already closed.

And after a while…
that starts messing with people.

Because job searching used to feel a little more straightforward.

Now it can feel like:

“am I too late?”
“am I missing something?”
“is everyone else seeing opportunities I’m not?”

And I think more people are feeling that right now than we realize.

Not all industries are equally "entry-level friendly."

Some are just easier to break into than others.

Which industry has one of the highest shares of entry-level workers?

The bar for standing out isn’t what it used to be.

It’s not just about
“can you do the job?” anymore.

It’s more like…

can you think through things when they’re unclear?
can you adjust when something changes?
can you figure things out without a ton of direction?

Because a lot of the more structured, repeatable work just doesn’t need as much human input as it used to.

So what ends up standing out now is less about what’s listed on paper…

and more about how you show up when things aren’t spelled out.

Sometimes career changes aren’t about chasing something new…

They’re about finally admitting something isn’t working anymore.

Recently that was the shift for me.

And once you decide to ‘really’ bet on yourself…
What you look for starts to change.

So I’m curious…
what matters most to you right now?

If you’ve looked at job postings lately and felt like…

something is just… off.

Recently, I came across a role that looked good on paper, but the expectations didn’t quite line up.

It wasn’t just one thing.

It was a little bit of everything.
More ownership.
More flexibility.
More figuring things out as you go.

And the part that stood out most…

it wasn’t always clear what actually mattered.

Even the compensation didn’t fully match the stretch.

So I passed.

Because at a certain point, it’s not about
“can I do this?”

It’s about:

Does this make sense for the way I want to work?
Does this feel sustainable?
Does this actually align with what I’m building right now?

And I think that’s the part people don’t talk about enough.

Not every role that looks like an opportunity…
is one worth taking.

Lately, I’ve been noticing something…

roles aren’t really opening up the way they used to.

It’s not that opportunities are gone.

It’s more like…

everything is just moving slower.

Roles stay open longer.
Hiring takes longer.
And the whole process feels more drawn out than it used to.

I saw this come up recently while helping someone think through their next move…

and it shifted how we approached the search entirely.

Not “apply to more”

but:

Where is there actual movement?
Where are things still progressing?
What’s worth your time right now?

Because when things slow down like this…

it’s not just about what’s available.

It’s about how you move through it. Need a place to start moving, I’ve shared a path here → thepillarassistant.com/freeresources/
