In this video, we demonstrate a Hybrid MPC–PID Current Control strategy for a BLDC Motor implemented in MATLAB/Simulink.

This advanced control architecture is designed to reduce starting current overshoot and improve dynamic performance in BLDC drives.

🔎 Control Structure

• Hybrid MPC–PID controller in the outer loop
• Hysteresis Current Controller in the inner loop
• Reduced inrush current during startup
• Improved current tracking performance
• Faster transient response
• Enhanced stability and robustness

⚡ Why Hybrid MPC–PID?

Conventional PID controllers may produce high starting current and overshoot during motor startup. By integrating Model Predictive Control (MPC) with PID:

✔ Starting current is significantly reduced
✔ Overshoot is minimized
✔ Current regulation is improved
✔ System response becomes smoother and more stable

The inner hysteresis current controller ensures fast switching response and precise current tracking.

🎯 This model is suitable for:

• EV motor drive development
• Research scholars & PhD work
• M.E / M.Tech / Final year projects
• Power electronics engineers
• Advanced motor control studies

Dear Friends,

The video shows a simulation of a BLDC motor being operated without using hall sensors. Instead, it uses a sensorless control method based on the commutation angle. The motor's speed is controlled through a closed loop system that compares the actual speed to a reference speed, and uses a PI controller for precise control.

Thank you.
