People absolutely feel poorer. But we do not need fake math to explain why.

This post claims wages only went up 12% since 2020. That is not accurate.

Average hourly earnings climbed from around $28 in early 2020 to $37.64 in June 2026. That is more than 30%. The numbers are public. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But here is why the frustration still hits.

A raise does not feel like progress when groceries, housing, insurance, and utilities reach into your pocket before the money ever settles in.

It gets worse. Real earnings actually FELL 0.7% over the year ending May 2026. Prices rose faster than paychecks.

So yes, wages went up. No, people do not feel richer.

Nobody experiences the economy through a government headline. They experience it at the grocery store. When rent is due. When the insurance renewal shows up acting disrespectful.

"Facts do not care about your feelings. But your feelings about money are still facts."

The frustration is legitimate. The numbers on this post are not.

This is exactly why I stopped depending on a paycheck and started building income the government pays for instead.

Tipping was supposed to reward great service. Now it feels like a second bill.

Let me be clear. Servers deserve to get paid well. Period.

But somewhere along the way, restaurants made the customer responsible for payroll.

You pay more for the food.
You pay the service fees.
Then the screen flips around asking for 20%, 25%, sometimes 30%.

And if you don't tip enough? Somehow YOU'RE the bad guy. Not the owner paying $3.50 an hour.

That's not a tipping problem. That's a business model problem.

Great servers should make great money. No question.

But it's not the customer's job to fix a payroll system the business built.

If your business only works when customers cover your payroll, you don't have a business. You have a donation box with a menu.
