For centuries, Bharatanatyam dancers have focused on ABHINAYA HASTAS (static hand gestures - Asamyuta & Samyuta Hastas) or finger mudras.



But the Natyashastra reveals something almost no modern dancer knows exists: NRITTA HASTAS—dynamic hand movements that are the hidden foundation of pure dance rhythm and footwork. In this performance, I'm demonstrating the authentic Nritta Hastas from the 108 Marga-based Karanas—movements that involve the entire hand in motion, not static finger positions.
