I am making DAILY videos on politics! I spent a decade at the Washington Post and another 5 years at CNN. But I've decided to go the independent creator route. I'm independent from the corporate conglomerates and the billionaire businessmen that own legacy media outlets. And I am independent from the two political parties. I call balls and strikes -- no matter what uniform the batter at the plate is wearing.

Way back in the summer of 2024, I shot my friend Chuck Todd a text out of the blue — asking him if he would be willing to do a weekly chat with me through the election.

Chuck was still at NBC. I was still trying to get my arms around being an independent news creator.

I didn’t have any big plan or strategy behind my ask. All I knew was that I had always wanted to find a way to do something with Chuck — someone I have known for two-plus decades and have always admired for his brain and the way he navigated the often-fraught world of politics and media. (I have also always respected Chuck as a hard worker and a good human in a field where those two traits are not super common.)

Chuck agreed. We started making a weekly Monday episode that posted on my Substack and this YouTube channel. People (mostly) liked it! (Yes, I know Chuck and I talk over each other too much! We both get excited and have lots to say!) And, most importantly, we were having a good time doing it.

When the 2024 election ended, Chuck and I decided to keep going — blocking out time in our schedule every Monday to talk about politics, sports, parenting and whatever else came up.

During that time, Chuck left NBC and became an independent creator in his own right. He started a Substack. He re-launched his “Chuck Toddcast” podcast.

And through it all, we kept making time for our Monday chats. Because, well, we liked doing it. It was nice — for me at least — to have a fellow traveler on this independent journalism path. Chuck and I had been friendly for years but suddenly I was spending real time with him every week. Talking shop. Trading advice.

Again, we had no real plan. We just liked talking to each other! But as our initial plan for a short-term sprint through the 2024 election turned into a years-long weekly chat, people in the media business started to approach us about the possibility of turning this [waves hands around wildly] into something more formal.

Which brings me to today — when the Chris + Chuck show (we never had a name for it!) evolves into “Super Tuesdays,” a weekly podcast from iHeart.

Here’s what’s changing:

* Episodes will now post every Tuesday morning rather than on Monday afternoon

* “Super Tuesdays” will now be FREE for everyone

* You can get the pod on ALL podcast apps — Spotify, Apple and YouTube

And that’s IT. Everything else will be the same — just Chuck and I chopping it up on the world of politics. And being middle aged. And parenting, And, of course, offering our detailed thoughts on the Washington Nationals!

The first episode of “Super Tuesdays” is LIVE now. Chuck and I talked Donald Trump and July 4, the NATO summit, Red Card-gate, the Michigan Senate race and, of course, Graham Platner.

Please like, comment and, most importantly, SUBSCRIBE to “Super Tuesdays” on Spotify, Apple or YouTube.

Thanks, as always, for your support as I continue to grow into new and interesting spaces in my journey as an independent news creator!

Hey everyone!

I am writing to you from a plane jetting to the West Coast -- San Diego, specifically.

I will be in the city through the weekend. And while I brought my laptop and microphone, I am going to be doing less posting for the next few days as I try to slow down a bit.

I'll be back at it full-time come early next week.

Thanks, as always, for your support of my journalism and my efforts to carve a path outside of the legacy, corporate media structures.

A favor: If you have recommendations on where to eat, the best coffee and/or fun things to do in and around San Diego, throw them in this chain or email me at cillizzac@gmail.com.

Best,
Chris

Hey all!

I see some people in comment section are unhappy that some of my videos are being sponsored by Polymarket.

I've responded to a few folks but wanted to put it here so that everyone can see ALL of my thoughts on the matter.

First and foremost, I have been sponsored by brands/companies in the past and am actively seeking to be sponsored by brands/companies in the future.

This is a reflection of the economic realities of being an independent (NOT affiliated with corporate/legacy media) content creator -- on YouTube, Substack and everywhere else.

Surviving on AdSense dollars alone simply does not work unless you have a channel that has 1+ million subs (or more). While memberships help, they don't make the financials add up either (or at least they don't for me..yet.)

The future of the independent news creator then is a combination of free subscriptions, paid subscriptions AND sponsorships.

Every *single* creator I know aggressively courts sponsors. Because, again, the economic realities of doing this without a salary, without healthcare benefits, without legal protections and without all of the other things that come with working for legacy media make it necessary to do so.

I don't know how other people handle sponsorships but here's how I do it:

1) I will ALWAYS be totally transparent about being sponsored
2) I will NEVER agree to be sponsored by any brand that asks for editorial input, oversight or approval of ANY content I make
3) I will NEVER take any money from political candidates, super PACs or ANY group affiliated with either party.

Those are my pledges to you. I have and will continue to stick by them as I continue to navigate the world of independent content creation.

Will every one of you agree with my decision in terms of sponsors? Of course not!

And if your trust in me is so shaky that -- after two-plus decades in political journalism -- you think I would be bought off by a single sponsor, well then I am not sure there's much I can do to convince you.

Thanks for reading. And for your continued support.

Best,
Chris

PS -- If you have further questions, feel free to respond to this post and I will do my best to answer them.

For people asking, Chuck and I are on a ONE week hiatus! He is on a long drive today and I was in Florida Monday and today -- on a plane on the way back now.

So no podcast this week!

Back at it next Monday.
