For a year coverage surrounding Garden Cove has alluded to “controversy” without ever fully acknowledging the most important fact:
The person publicly cast in that controversy is also the person who did the most to preserve Garden Cove’s legacy.
I was a former employee and customer of Garden Cove.
I created archival media documenting the store.
I published We Never Forgot to preserve its recipes, imagery, and memory.
I maintained the murals and visual history on our platforms after others let them fade.
Yet when local media covers the erasure of those murals, none of that is mentioned.
No acknowledgment of who preserved them.
No acknowledgment of the cookbook.
No acknowledgment of the archival work.
No acknowledgment of the direct connection.
If you want to see those murals and that history beyond a brief news segment, the only comprehensive public archive of them exists through our work.
History deserves accuracy.
Preservation deserves acknowledgment.
And the public deserves the full story.
