Harvard president Claudine Gay is stepping down, according to the Harvard Crimson, following weeks of mounting pressure over her response to alleged antisemitism on campus and questions about her academic record.
Gay wrote, "Amidst all of this, it has been distressing to have doubt cast on my commitments to confronting hate and to upholding scholarly rigor - two bedrock values that are fundamental to who I am - and frightening to be subjected to personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus,"
"Gay is one of several university administrators facing backlash after a congressional hearing in early December, which Republicans used as a platform to demand censorship of pro-Palestine voices on campus. Gay had refused to answer directly when asked leading questions by Congressmember Elise Stefanik about whether students could be punished for calling for the genocide of Jews, though she cited no specific instance." Democracy Now!
According to The Harvard Crimson, Gay's six-month and two-day tenure marks "the shortest presidency in the University's history." And all Ivy League history.

"Tensions continue to escalate in the Red Sea, where U.S. forces killed 10 Houthi fighters from Yemen and sank three of their ships over the weekend.
The Iran-backed militia, also known as Ansar Allah, has spent weeks attacking ships it identified as being linked to Israel to protest the country's devastating war on Gaza.
Some major companies have stopped sailing through the Red Sea, a crucial waterway for international shipping, in response to the Houthi campaign.
Iran reportedly deployed a warship to the Red Sea a day after the U.S. attack, raising fears of a wider regional conflict." Democracynow!

When financial interests intertwine with policy decisions, does it cast a shadow on their objectivity and choices? It's vital to consider the implications of where money meets policy.
