๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ 5 Shocking Facts About Orania, South Africa's Most Controversial Town

Imagine a town in democratic South Africa with its own currency, its own vision of self-rule, and a community that openly identifies as Afrikaner.

1๏ธโƒฃ Orania identifies itself as an Afrikaner-only community Founded in 1991, Orania says it exists to preserve Afrikaner culture, language, and identity. It admits people who identify with its Afrikaner community and support its founding principles.

2๏ธโƒฃ It has its own local currency Orania issues its own currency, the Ora, which is pegged one-to-one with the South African rand and is used by many businesses within the town.

3๏ธโƒฃ Residents do their own manual labour Unlike many towns, Orania promotes self-reliance. Residents are encouraged to do everything from farming and construction to cleaning and maintenance themselves.

4๏ธโƒฃ It seeks Afrikaner self-determination Orania's leadership advocates for greater Afrikaner self-governance under South Africa's Constitution, arguing that communities have the right to preserve their culture and institutions.

5๏ธโƒฃ It continues to grow Despite being controversial, Orania has expanded over the years, attracting new residents and developing businesses, schools, housing, and infrastructure.

Whether viewed as cultural preservation or a legacy of South Africa's divisions, Orania continues to spark debate across the country and beyond.

Africarized - African History and Stories

Imagine losing 39 years of your life for a crime you never committed.

At just 18 years old, Ricky Jackson was sentenced to death based on the testimony of a frightened 12-year-old boy. There was no DNA, no murder weapon, and no physical evidence linking him to the crime.

For decades, Ricky maintained his innocence.

He was offered opportunities for release, but there was a catch: he had to admit guilt. He refused. Why? Because he would not confess to a crime he did not commit, even if it meant remaining behind bars.

While he sat in prison, the world changed. Family members grew older, loved ones passed away, and entire generations came and went. Yet he never abandoned the truth.

Then, in 2014, the key witness finally came forward and admitted that he had been coerced into giving false testimony as a child. The conviction was overturned, and Ricky Jackson walked free at the age of 57 after spending 39 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.

His story is a powerful reminder that justice systems are run by human beingsโ€”and human beings can make devastating mistakes.

What would you do if telling a lie could buy your freedom, but cost your integrity?

Africarized - African History and Stories

Slavery was never just chains.

It was iron collars that made sleep almost impossible. It was whips, auctions, family separation, torture, and a system designed to strip human beings of their dignity.

Many enslaved Africans were forced to wear brutal iron collars for weeks or even months. These devices inflicted constant pain and were used to punish people for acts as simple as trying to escape, speaking out, resting too long, or daring to believe they deserved freedom.

This was not merely "hard labor."

It was a system of organized terror built on violence, fear, and the deliberate dehumanization of millions of people.

Perhaps the most unsettling truth is that many who upheld this system considered themselves respectable members of society, businessmen, politicians, and even churchgoers. History reminds us that injustice can become normalized when people stop questioning it.

We must never sanitize slavery with gentle language. To understand the strength of our ancestors, we must first understand the horrors they endured. Freedom was not a gift; it was won through the resilience, resistance, and sacrifice of generations who refused to let oppression define them.

Lest we forget.

If you want to uncover the history that is too often ignored or softened, read my books:

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ The Democratic Republic of Congo is taking a major step toward economic empowerment and resource ownership.

The Congolese government is considering a new mining reform that would make mine workers shareholders in the companies they help build. The proposed decree seeks to enforce the 2018 Mining Code's requirement for 10% Congolese ownership in mining companies, with 5% reserved for workers through cooperatives, credit schemes, and other employee ownership programs, while the remaining 5% would be owned by Congolese citizens.

For decades, Africa has supplied the world with valuable minerals while many local communities saw little benefit from the wealth beneath their feet. This reform aims to ensure that Congolese workers and citizens gain a direct stake in the mining sector and share in the profits generated from their country's natural resources.

This is the kind of thinking Africa needs: moving from being workers in foreign-controlled industries to becoming owners, investors, and decision-makers in our own economies.

โค๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š Marcus Garvey was more than a speaker, he was a builder.

Many people know Marcus Garvey for his powerful speeches, but few realize the scale of what he and his movement accomplished:

โœ… Built factories that produced Black dolls for Black children
โœ… Established hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores
โœ… Created a trucking company
โœ… Built schools and educational institutions
โœ… Owned a printing press and launched newspapers
โœ… Published the Negro World in multiple languages
โœ… Purchased ships and promoted international trade through the Black Star Line
โœ… Acquired office buildings and Liberty Hall in New York
โœ… Built a movement that reportedly reached millions of members worldwide
โœ… Expanded into dozens of countries across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, and beyond
โœ… Founded the People's Political Party

Perhaps the most remarkable part is that Garvey achieved all of this without government funding and with only a limited formal education.

His legacy reminds us that real empowerment is not just about protestโ€”it is about building institutions, businesses, schools, media platforms, and economic power.

๐Ÿšจ Racism in the USA? A Florida teacher has been fired following a disturbing classroom incident that sparked widespread outrage.

According to reports, a 63-year-old art teacher at a middle school in Florida was dismissed after allegedly hanging a Black baby doll by its neck in front of students. When students questioned the display, she reportedly laughed and said it was meant to get their attention.

A student recorded the incident, and the video quickly spread online after being shared by his mother, prompting an investigation by the school district.

Critics argued that such actions have no place in a learning environment and can cause fear, trauma, and emotional harm to students.
Incidents like this remind us that the struggle against racism and discrimination is not just history, it remains a challenge in many societies today.

Malcolm X taught me that history is not just about repeating stories from the past. It is about using the lessons of our past to build power, businesses, institutions, and legacies today.

Knowledge means nothing if it does not transform our future. We must learn from history, support African businesses, empower our communities, create opportunities, and build systems that serve our people โ€” by any means necessary.

That is also the message behind my book, Decolonize African Institutions, where I explore how Africans can rethink education, economics, leadership, and institutions for true freedom and prosperity.
