Tuneage Tuesday and there’s honestly so much good music right now, new albums I haven’t fully listened to yet, but this week I’m gonna have to give it to CalledOut Music with his version of Shine Jesus Shine.

Written by Graham Kendrick. Produced by Samuel Nwachukwu, Dave Cruz and Trenton Bylo. It’s a great cover of a classic hymn, with a nice neo soul swing.

So I finished watching this with my wife last night and I regret ever starting it. I thought it’d just be another crazy Netflix documentary that at most would have me saying, “What the heck?!” But it took a really dark turn 😔 Prayers go out to all the family and all that were affected. Have you seen this? What were your thoughts? Also not being a true crime enthusiast, how do you feel about the line between documenting and “entertainment”? #maternalinstinct #netflix #netflixdocumentary #truecrime

Tuneage Tuesday is something I definitely need, energy! by Tiana Major9 featuring Keyon Harrold from her latest album November Scorpio.

Produced by PRGRSHN, JLL, Keyon Harrold, and Shroom. Written by Kassa Alexander, Tiana Thomas-Ambersley, Tim Sebastiaan Schogje, Jean-André Lowell, Lawrence and Keyon Harrold. This is a funky little mid tempo tune from a great neo soul album. Loving Tiana’s work!

Ok Tuneage Tuesday this week and we’re going for an old skool classic, I Wish by Carl Thomas.

Produced by Carl Thomas, Datu Fasion, Harve “Joe Hooker” Pierre, Mike City, Rick Brown et al. Written by Carl Thomas and Michael Flowers. I was doing the dishes and had Charlie Puth on the Terrell show in the background and Charlie began to play this song. I forgot how much of a lyrical, musical banger this is and the vocal is so good!

Tuneage Tuesday this week is Because He Lives by Jordan G. Welch. One to bring a bit of peace and stillness on this scorching hot day ☀️

Produced by Jordan G. Welch and Loren Kirkland. Written by Bill and Gloria Gaither. Arranged by Jordan G. Welch, with background vocals from Sandrel Wells and Priestley Johnson, and Dontavious Turner and guitar. The vocal arrangement and harmonies on this classic hymn are just beautiful. According to an old interview with the songwriting couple the song was penned during a traumatic point in their lives with fears of bringing their third child into the world’s craziness, if not for a faithful God bringing them through.

Today’s Tuneage Tuesday is Don’t Count Yourself Out by Tank and the Bangas featuring Dawn Richard, from their new album The Last Balloon.

Produced by Michäel Brun and Brian London and written with Tarriona Ball, Norman Spence II, Austin Brown and Dawn Richard. I’m loving this new album so it was difficult to choose just one, but I like the funky, soulful, chilled house vibes that this song brings. I also like the encouraging messages in the lyrics.

Today’s Tuneage Tuesday is a throwback from OutKast’s André 3000 with Prototype from the Speakerboxxx/The Love Below album released back in 2003.

Written and produced by André “3000” Benjamin. This is a timeless jam, giving some psychedelic, Jimi Hendrix vibes. It still hits today, I may even learn this one for a chilled set

Tuneage Tuesday is Love in Exile by Charlie Puth with Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. Taken from his latest album Whatever’s Clever!

Produced by BloodPop and Charlie Puth. Written with Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. This is a tune and really captures that smooth, pop sound of the 80s that Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins are famous for.

Also the album’s decent too, I particularly like Until It Happens getting Jeff Goldblum & the Mildred Snitzer orchestra.

Today’s Tuneage Tuesday is ASAP by Mya.

Produced by LaMar “MYGUYMARS” Edwards and Mya Harrison. Written with Vincent Berry II. If you know your RnB you know that Mya is a legend in the game and she’s bringing back an old school RnB sound that I partly grew up on with this track about reconciliation and taking things out.

Tuneage Tuesday and we’re taking it back with Searching by Change featuring Luther Vandross.

Written and composed by Malavasi. Produced by Jacques Fred Petrus with Malavasi. Change are kind of like a post-disco super group. I won’t bore you with the whole biography, but interestingly they initially formed as a studio band by Italian duo Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi. They were heavily influenced by Chic (and I mistakenly thought they grew out of Chic partly because of the sound). Anyway many of the vocalists in the group were American soul singers including Jocelyn Brown and of course the aforementioned Luther Vandross to name a few (or a couple). They came with some serious bangers and this is one of them
