Can we pls talk abt Rengoku's fandom for a second?

Kanae is literally just a plot device. Let's be real for a second. What does Kanae actually do in the story besides die and motivate other characters?
Her entire existence revolves around pushing the development of others: β’ She dies to give Shinobu a revenge motive. β’ She dies to establish Doma as a threat. β’ She dies to influence Kanao's worldview. β’ She dies to create emotional backstory.
Remove Kanae as a character and replace her with "beloved dead sister" and almost nothing changes. That's because the story doesn't explore her, it explores the effects of her death.
She has barely any screentime, almost no meaningful character arc, no major fights shown, and very little independent relevance to the main plot. Most of her popularity comes from fan interpretations, headcanons, and supplementary material rather than accomplishments within the actual story itself.
A well-developed character impacts the story through their actions while alive. Kanae's biggest contribution happens after she's gone. The narrative treats her more as a memory than as an active participant.
That's why calling Kanae a plot device isn't an insult. It's simply acknowledging her role in the story. Her purpose was to motivate Shinobu, shape Kanao, and add emotional weight to Doma's introduction. Beyond that, the series doesn't give her much to do.
In the end, Kanae is remembered more for how other characters feel about her than for anything she personally achieved on-screen. (Cry abt it Kanae stans, accept the fact you guys overhype her for no reason)
