This was one of my all time favorite books, and I was saving it to read again in honor of this 250th Independence Day which is also the 163rd anniversary of Gettysburg. I remember it was the last book we read in 12th grade for AP Lit, and I was so invested I stayed up late to finish it. I cried at the end of it and I still cry every time I read it, to think on the circumstances and decisions (and the imperfect men who made them) that decided this historic battle โ€œthat this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ญ

This middle grade historical fiction was a great read, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I really appreciate how the authors wove real people and events into the story of the main characters. Itโ€™s a dual-perspective, the POV alternating between the main characters, a brother and sister who find themselves living and working at Bletchley Park in England at the beginning of WWII. Itโ€™s part character study, part mystery (IMO), and it kept me turning the pages! There was also some extra information in an appendix at the back of the book for those who want to use it for book clubs or maybe homeschool reads. Let me know if youโ€™ve read this one!

If you watch my channel, you know we are big sports fans, and baseball is my favorite. My husband is an OU alum, and we lived near and worked on campus the first 13 years of our marriage. Plus my brother-in-law, played baseball at OU in the early 2000โ€™s. So you KNOW Iโ€™ve been on the edge of my seat the last few weeks, and I absolutely sent my husband and our son to Omaha to see it in person! Watching this Cinderella story in the post season has been an absolute blast, but it has been super fun to watch all the teams in the CWS, and watching and hearing from these kidsโ€™ parents hits different now that I have teenagers of my own. What a wild ride! BOOMER SOONER!

My husband and I were talking about how eating out has become so pricey, and it doesn't feel "worth it" at very many places. We still enjoy going out for dinner some, especially to a few great locally owned restaurants, but not as often. Fortunately (for me), my husband grills a steak to perfection. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I can honestly say now, I prefer a steak dinner at home compared to most restaurants.
