Lebanon's culture minister has warned that Israeli strikes on the country's south were putting heritage sites in "serious danger", after a castle was directly hit.

The medieval Beaufort castle overlooking Nabatieh was "directly hit... we know that several bombs fell on this fortress", culture minister Ghassan Salame said.

He added: "Bombings fell very close to the ruins of Tyre," a UNESCO World Heritage site.

"The intensification of the battles means that these sites are in serious danger."

Since the US-Israel war on Iran began, the prospects for a diplomatic breakthrough have never been brighter.

But any Memorandum of Understanding will reflect a temporary convergence of interests between adversaries, rather than reconciliation.

Even if an accommodation can be found on the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme, the serious risk of confrontation will only be reduced, not eliminated.

Rome Pride has barred Keshet Italia, Italy's only Jewish LGBT group, from joining its upcoming annual parade – citing its failure to explicitly condemn Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide.

In a statement issued ‌after meeting representatives of Keshet Italia and Keshet Europe, Rome Pride said "the conditions" did not exist for them to enter a float into the Pride Parade on June 20.

Rome Pride organisers said the event was “an open and free demonstration," and that anyone who shared the movement's founding values could join the march. This meant signing up to Rome Pride's political platform, which included calling Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza for what it is.

Rome Pride also stated that it distinguished between Israel's government and the Jewish community, including Jewish LGBTQ+ people, and would never hold the latter responsible for what it called war crimes by a "genocidal government".

However, it said Keshet Italia bore responsibility for not distancing itself from the "ongoing genocide in Gaza" and for making what Pride organisers described as an unacceptable lexical distinction in a recent statement.

Keshet Italia protested against its exclusion. The European Jewish Congress (EJC) also criticised the move, saying the decision risked making the participation of Jewish associations conditional on accepting specific narratives.

"No one should be subjected to an ideological test in order to participate in a movement founded on inclusion, dignity and equal rights," the EJC said.

Rome Pride said its political platform was not "a buffet" from which participants could pick and choose.

Israel is breaking all contact with United Nations chief António Guterres, the country's ambassador announced yesterday, saying it was "outrageous" Israel is being blacklisted over alleged sexual violence in conflict zones.

"We are done with this secretary-general," Israeli UN ambassador Danny Danon said in a video posted on X.

"The decision to blacklist Israel and accuse us of using sexual violence as a weapon of war is an outrageous decision.

"The secretary general and his team continue to spread lies against Israel. To put us and Hamas terrorists on the same list, that's unacceptable."
