Salam Alaikum & Hello!
My name's Tariq and I run Hikma History, dedicated to exploring the rich History of the Islamic World. If you want to learn about Islamic civilisation's incredible past from a non-religious perspective, this is the channel for you! I've been obsessed with History since I was 9 - stories from the past seemed more incredible to me than movies. I was captivated as a youth by tales of Al-Andalus, the rise and dominance of the Ottomans, the splendor and wealth of the Mughals, the vigor and ambition of the Mongols and Timurids. So that's my mission - to help spread awareness of the past so that others can also appreciate those same wonderful stories.
Although a one-man team at the moment, as I expand the team I want make longer-format content - I'm talking full blown documentaries!
Education: BA, MA & PhD (ongoing) in History.

Ibn Khaldun really was a one-of-a-kind character in history. This is because he is considered the father of various academic subjects today. One of which is Sociology, which he himself termed as ‘Ilm al-Umran’ meaning the study of culture, something he would have had intimate familiarity with considering his iterant lifestyle. Recently there has been calls for him to be considered the father of economics as well, not Adam Smith. Ibn Khaldun was even quoted by American president Ronald Reagan to justify his tax cuts in 1981, using the Arab scholar’s assertion that in the beginning of a dynasty, great tax revenues were gained from lower tax rates, whilst at the end of the dynasty, small tax revenues were gained from higher tax rates. And of course the philosophy of history that he outlined in the Muqaddimah has been super influential since then. Full video on Ibn Khaldun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ8tt...

The American war machine is on the prowl in the Middle East, along with their side-kick (or supervisor???) Israel. Once again, America's willfully ignorant foreign policy will bring death and devastation to the Middle East. In the end, big business & corrupt politicians will benefit whilst ordinary people (in Iran but also USA) will lose. To make matters worse, Afghanistan & Pakistan seem to be headed towards war (no doubt somehow connected to the current Iran situation). I don't know why I'm writing this, I guess it's just sad to see how the fates of so many can suffer at the hands of so few that are obviously morally corrupt and inept.

Iran used to be referred to as Persia but that officially changed in 1935. Learn more about that how 'Iran' means a lot more than the modern-day nation state in my latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv-40...

I will be making more biographies of prominent modern leaders moving forward. Here is 2 hour long compilation video of Ataturk, Mohammad Reza Shah and Saddam Hussein. I already have a video on King Faisal of Saudi Arabia that will be live in a week. Nasser will obviously be covered too but besides him, who else would you like a biography on?

Central Asia is amongst the most historically exotic places in history. Its Silk Road metropolises became centres of trade and learning, whilst its nomadic identity created mercilessly efficient horse archers who brought neighbouring settled societies to submission. But with the advent of the modern age, they were left behind by European states who began industrialising rapidly. Russia moved into the region and imposed its imperial will over Central Asia. The Israeli-American attacks on Iran could be era defining, with huge consequences for the fate of Iran, Israel & America (not to mention the wider Middle East). Israel is facing widespread criticism, not only for their gross violations of basic human rights (the Gaza War has essentially descended into a genocidal campaign), but also their inexplicable influence over their Superpower friend, America. The US is at a crossroads of sorts - it's declining as a Superpower and must now decide how to navigate the transition into multipolar international order (or does it try to cling on to the No. 1 spot?!); all the while, it has to deal with mounting domestic issues such as a toxic & divisive socio-political atmosphere (Donald Trump is President!? isn't that a Simpson skit LOOL), and relating to the economy (I'm not an economics expert but I do know having an economic model based on credit & debt whilst your currency is mainly backed by your military strength ain't sustainable, especially since lots of countries around the world hate you for being a hypocritical bully). For Iran, the Ayatollahs are fighting for their lives in order to protect their domination of the country; so far, there seems to be no indication of organic, domestic protests but the Ayatollahs will need to decide soon if it wants to escalate the conflict (thus far, they have exercised extraordinary patience), and if they are ready & willing (worst case scenario, of course) to drag the Israeli-American coalition into a ground invasion, e.g. Afghanistan or Iraq (which could literally end up being century-defining). In any case, here is a documentary I did last year about Iran's revolutionary history that I'm real proud of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hN6i...

After around the turn of the first millennium (1000 AD), most Arab lands were ruled by non-Arabs, being supplanted by the warrior-like Turks. It wasn't until the importation of Nationalism in the modern period that the Arabs would regain their control over their lands. But they soon found themselves at the prey of another imperial hegemon: the Europeans. Subsequently, during the 20th century, Nationalism was used as a tool to achieve unity and gain freedom. Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi's deposal in 1979 ended the monarchy in Iran after 2,500 years of continuous rule. Prior to the popular revolution that brought him down, the Shah was an active ruler who modernised his country rapidly. Iran gained access to a greater share of its oil revenues, which were subsequently used to restore the nation's lost glory. FULL VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrFyN...
