Research suggests massage therapy increases heart rate variability, which links to better recovery and stronger parasympathetic activity.

Reference, Moyer et al, 2011, International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. The meta analysis reported increases in parasympathetic activity and HRV after massage.
